A solo show from mike may just be what this pod needs. Use it as an opportunity to reset and rebuild. I have not been a sustained a2hh viewer since Coop left. In my opinion, the show has struggled with redefining itself. Taking it back to the basics and having it grounded with Mike worked for me.

I like The Death of Slim Shady...best I've heard from since 09 and nearly as terrible for me as Encore or Recovery or Revival. He's never gonna recapture that 99-00 Shady mainly because back then even though the stuff Shady would say would exaggerated and hyperbolic the emotion behind it was real and Eminem was genuinely funnier back then. He'll never tap into that again. Grading him from 09 going forward na this is a solid Eminem project juvenile but solid. I wish Eminem would stop producing himself get with Alchemist, Hit-Boy, Apollo Brown, Madlib people that would push his pen in different directions

Whether you like the new Eminem or not, listeners should be able to understand Mikes viewpoint. I thought the album was a solid entertaining album with some cornyness and some creative flows/production. But it is nowhere compared to how great of an album Common/Pete Rock is. That album is straight up excellent. I think it’s up there with a KD3. Pete Rock went crazy.

One thing I disagree with Mike about the Auditorium album is that I do think it sounds old school. It took me three to four times for me to warm up to it. I think the combination of Pete’s sound and Common’s flow can definitely make the album feel a bit dated. However, once you settle in to it the vibe becomes infectious.

Dope show and I never thought I'd even be saying this cause I still don't like Em new album like that but in terms of HIP HOP? If the artists today are bringing something we NEED or should need that's more substantial then what Em did I'm all for it but I need to see more MC's engage in more battles, more freestyles with more formidable underground lyricists at the level of Lyricist Lounge and the Wake Up Show and with better lyricism then what Em brought to the table. I understand that he's not everybody cup of tea but if what he came in the door with was trash then we should be hearing way better MC's that can offer more. I can't remember the last MC that had footage of him battling other rappers or dropping verses back to back every time Sway would pass them a mic. I'm hearing a push back on rappers with lyrical skills now and if that's the case we should be hearing more impressive lyricism since Em is so wack right? In my era you had to have so many bars on deck it was ridiculous and Em had to show and prove regardless if people think it was handed to him cause I really was there making tapes of the Wake Up Show back in the day. That level of lyricism from new rappers coming in the game is pretty much non existent now aside from a select few so if you feel Em never been dope cool but don't champion someone with even less skill moving forward.

To answer Mike's question, Hip Hop never needed a Slim Shady. However POP CULTURE needed one in the late 1990s/early 2000s and that need was served. The real irony is that Slim Shady was a literary device for Eminem to say things he thought but shouldn't say & in 2024, Slim Shady is used by Eminem to express that he's a cringy middle aged man that's out of touch & doesn't understand Gen Z. He's so out of touch that he can't shock anyone or get himself cancelled on purpose. Only Kanye is fit to wear the hockey mask
@leroygreen6310
@leroygreen6310 Ай бұрын
I don't know man because Em came from the Outsidaz which included Pace Won, Rah Digga, Young Zee and others but they was still underground but the appeal of that was the fact they was doing freestyles and using unorthodox syllables in terms of rhyming words that really shouldn't rhyme but still do. Also freestyling and battling was respected in my era. I know people got they opinion on it now but as young rappers we use to respect both those elements so in terms of what Hip Hop "needs"? Thats a loaded question cause if I really answered that honestly people would reject it for more entertaining and low hanging fruit. Like do we "NEED" alot of the songs we hear really? Like do they offer anything stylistically more creative? Idk We don't have to like Em but to look down on the totality of everything he ever did aside from a few songs is kinda of a reach. I grew up where heads used to look to what was happening in the underground which most rap fans today really didn't experience so they don't remember what Em was doing on the Wake Up Show before we ever knew what he looked like. All we had was his voice through the radio along with Crooked I and other dope MC's super late at night when Sway would come on. The rappers today just not built like that imo. They not gonna battle anybody from the underground and they not gonna freestyle on underground platforms to try and get buzzing. I know Mike feels a way about Em but when I was in school back in the day and the name Em started buzzing around we never really thought about using an alter ego or internal rhymes or twisted syllables etc. Now it's just regular but hearing it done in that way for the first time was different. We respected Redman and Busta Rhymes so when we heard members from the Outsidaz was down with them we thought they must have some kinda skill. When Sway kept giving Em the mic we thought he must be doing something right and again I didn't even know he was white. All I heard was these unorthodox and completely ridiculous rhymes like yo whoever this person is he different. That was respected back then. Now sounding like someone else is respected.

@@leroygreen6310 I wasn't trying to suggest that Eminem wasn't a real emcee or that he wasn't Hip Hop or the literary device called Slim Shady never made great rhymes. Just that Hip Hop didn't need him. If he didn't arrive at the perfect time in history and didn't have the aspects that made him a marketing teams dream (this includes but is not excluded by the fact of him being white) he never would have surfaced as a mainstay relevant to the culture. Sure he would have still killed those Sway freestyles, appeared on underground vinyl with Rawkus, rap with The Outsidaz and won my respect, but Slim Shady would only be as big as Kage, R.A. The Rugged Man, Necro, The High & Mighty and Jedi Mind Tricks. Slim Shady worked in 1999 for much of the same reason Stone Cold Steve Austin did as a wrestler in that same era. In wrestling back in 1986, making a mockery of John 3:16 would have made no money. In music in 2024, Slim Shady shocks no one (except stupid Kendrick fans who thought he said MMATBS was wack because they're too emotional to comprehend bars). That's why the parody Slim Shady performs satirizes Marshall being out of touch with Gen Z and being unable to move on and mature as an artist like a few of his contemporaries have done.
@romybrown6102
@romybrown6102 Ай бұрын
The best thing Slim Shady did for Eminem was give him a bigger platform than any rapper ever had before or since. With that platform he dropped The Eminem Show; his best album and the one that made white people feel him. (White people FEEL The Eminem Show like black people FEEL all eyes on me. They FEEL Soldier like we FEEL Ambitionz Az A Ridah, and so to them, he is the GOAT). He showed mainstream American how to rap, what it means to be a rapper and he certainly championed the culture. All rappers, emcees and lyricist respect Em's pen because they understand how good he is. Unlike Mike, I will give the devil his due but my initial comment was particularly about Slim Shady and not Eminem.
