Mariah was always into hip hop since a teenager she even raps on her first album lol. In 95 she did a remix with ODB and went mainly hip hop/RnB after that interestingly enough. I definitely prefer her power vocals over that style, but I think it’s a journey you’ll really enjoy going through her discography and interviews

She’s always been pretty brutally honest and even if she did get drunk and do things who would want to admit that with how psycho he was using fake clips of her voice at concerts etc lol. Not sure if you know by now but this is the summary as I understand it: Around 2001/2002 Mariah reached out to him to collaborate with her on her upcoming album "Charmbracelet" which was released in 2002. Mariah flew her G5 about twice to go see him and discuss the collab. This is where it starts to get interesting. Mariah claimed they were only ever seeing each other as friends, and he claimed that they were dating for 6 months (sounds to me like a delusion or a cheap shot to gain free publicity) He and Mariah dissed each other in songs around 2002 (e.g. Mariah's "Clown" and his "Superman"). Obviously, the collab didn't come to fruition and the Charmbracelet album ended up with the song "Clown" on it instead, which is a diss track about him and the situation. At this point Mariah kind of let it go and moved on, but he could not move on and kept mentioning her and dissing her through the years going up to 2008/2009 when he released Bagpipes From Baghdad, another diss track about her. After that Mariah has had enough and wrote the song "Obsessed" for her new album coming out that year and released it as the first single. You can probably understand why this is the title she chose. I left some details out here and there. There was more that happened after Obsessed, but for a deeper dive, there are videos about it on KZfaq going over everything.
