She's the essential whiney white girl of the early 2000's. She's can't whine about herself? It's fine. Pick a cause, any cause. She doesn't really have to care about it, as long as she can protest about it for a second. One of the most self-involved characters on Degrassi. To be fair, they gave Emma alot of basic teen drama and had to make it seem bigger than it was bc any real problems went to any other character but her (except her ed). But I feel like Degrassi has a problem with "main characters". Each era of Degrassi had a character they wanted to center the show around, but then they become whiney, crazy, and pretty hard to like. Clare is another example of this. Though, Emma had it the worst, especially when they would have her do something out of character just to add drama to someone elses storyline. But the actress who played Emma was able to make a stall piece of knockoff dollar store wonder bread taste more like a ready to eat pastry dish.

I remember defending Emma against a couple of edgelords in another comment section, blaming her regarding Rick’s actions after weeks of being pushed to the limit due to bullying and the principal’s lack of regard towards. What I find even more disgusting was the fact of them being pissed at Emma for simply, but harshly giving Rick a reality check that she had no romantic interest in him and only pitied him. Here’s the thing; do I like Emma as a character? No. Is Emma the blame for Rick reaching his breaking point and bringing a gun to school? Definitely not. Did Emma play a part in him getting bullied by the entire student body? Yeah, but at least realized how far and intense the situation got and put an end to it. Just because she stood up for him and was cordial towards him, does NOT mean she owed him any type of loyalty or relationship.

When I was younger, I loved Emma because of her activism. I also really liked Manny. As an adult, Manny is a way better person. Yeah, she does some really messed up stuff. But she is a far better friend than Emna. And a better costar when acting- Dracula, anyone? And yes, that's even with her dating Jay toward the end.

Emma is a mean girl, who thinks she's sweet and above it all, because she occasionally fights for the planet's rights or whatever. At least characters like Paige and Holly J were honest about what they are. Emma is a TERRIBLE friend to Manny, constantly eroded at any self-esteem Sean had, and was generally doing really awful things to people who didn't deserve. (Except Rick). Like, this compilation didn't even include Emma ditching Manny at the 80's dance, how she threw Manny's abortion in her face, hung out with the girl who was making fun of Manny, all the judgemental crap she's ever said to Sean, etc. Meanwhile, Manny ALWAYS had Emma's best interests at heart. And Sean was obsessed with her.

i love emma, she's the literal perfect "character you love to hate" archetype. i loved watching her get worse too, its a pretty accurate depiction of what happens when the goody goody people pleaser who has all of her "greater good" actions completely backfire so their psyche breaks down along with their sense of identity. degrassi nailed so many complex character types, it was wild.

Manny couldn't say anything to Emma about the Jay dilemma because she was encouraging Craig to dump Ashley and continued going after him whenever she saw a small crack in their relationship but at the same time Emma's nose was all up in Manny's Craig dilemma and claims she's the better/bigger person yet goes on to do something similar to what her bestie did in s4 Honestly they're both bad and hypocrites but i think Emma is way more toxic for Manny than Manny being toxic for Emma

I grew to love Emma, honestly. Her character was a reminder to all of us that no one is born knowing to be a good friend. We’ll make mistakes and learn along the way. Neither Manny nor Emma we’re perfect friends to each other but, their growth was amazing to see.

Y’all can hate all y’all want. It’s easy to say “she’s terrible” or “jealous” (idk why y’all use jealous, always pitting characters against one another” but she was reality because her stories is what you’d see in the avenger girl. First hard crush over friends, not wanting to admit when you have a problem (and people suffering from anorexia do lash out at those closest to them) it’s not meant to be pretty, reasonings behind going with the bully and picking on someone. She’s still a favorite because it came out genuine. Half of these moments are out of if context.

Manny had her flaws and was far from perfect, but she had a good heart at the end of the day.

I agree that in some cases, Emma was incredibly rude and in the wrong, e.g. with Chris and Liberty, but a lot of these scenes are taken out of context. For example, she supported Manny after Peter distributed that photo, she fund raised for Sean so he could get a lawyer, she felt bad about how she treated Rick and later became his friend. I am not saying she was the best character but I think sometimes she gets too much slander.
