I remeber a documentary about babies. They said that actually that last reflect, the walking or what-ever reflect, doesnt actually fade away. Its just that the baby just puts on so much weight that they cant lift their feet anymore. In the documentary they had a bigger baby that did show that reflect anymore put in water, waist high water and now the baby started to walk!

The stepping reflex is there to help in breastfeeding in the very newborn stage. At birth, when babies are placed skin to skin on mom's belly while mom is in a reclined position, that stepping reflex helps babies push themselves up to mom's breast by "stepping" on her belly. As mom's and babies are still learning to breastfeed, using this position will help babies use their reflexes and instincts to self-latch onto the breast. Once mom and baby figure out how to latch and nurse, this position is not necessarily the only position to use. This confidence in breastfeeding for both mom and baby tends to show up just as that stepping reflex starts to fade. Look up "breast crawl" videos to see what I mean.

I figured that out when I put my week old baby on my stomach and I could see her trying to crawl towards my boob with all her might like she was starring in 'Vertical Limit' . Newborn babies' survival instincts are not as great as those of other baby mammals, but latching seems to be pretty high on the list of priorities

Now I understand the sucking reflex. We had our baby’s first pediatric visit today & her doctor was saying something similar; “Sucking doesn’t always mean hungry.” I kept thinking it just always meant she was hungry, so I would just head for the bottle lol. Now I know 🙂

Mamma’s you should try not to let the baby suck on his/her hand/thumb, instead stick with a pacifier. when the baby gets older and your trying to get them to stop using a binki, you can not cut the tip of the thumb like you can cut the tip of the pacifier.

You can start doing tummy time, taking a thin cotton swaddle and run it over thier face and hands down thier body, this let's them feel a different sense its sensory play. Other that that follow your baby's cues for feeding and napping. She has a video on hunger cues I would recommend that video. There's no real "schedule" for such young babies. Feed every 1-2 hrs look for her video on hunger cues. Bath time sometime between 7-9pm is okay

It’s really hard to say when I can’t see your little one in person. At this age they are still experimenting with food so she just might not be in the mood. When she doesn’t feel like eating you could always still play with the food so she gets to use to what the food feels like/ smell like etc. this way it is still a great learning opportunity

My little one of 5 months age has started to suck her fingers to calm down, and the pediatritian has told us to quit this habit right away, because it may stay for years affecting her teeth and introduce the pacifier instead (which she is not that fan of yet, so we need to teach her use it), because since it is an object, we can make it dissapearat a certain point. Is it really a reflex that will fade naturally at 12 months age? Thank you so much!

My question is out of topic SORRY my 4 month old baby refuses to eat during the day and only eats every two hours from 10 pm to 10 am (this week) I tryed to switch to the bottle feeding but it doesn't work, from 10am to 10 pm, he takes the breast 2 minutes a time after each nap (3 to 4 naps ).. I noticed that he bites his lower lip and his fingers a lot.. he still have the same number of wet and dirty diaper. I was willing to start solid food at the age of 6 months but now I'm confused. Should I start sold food now since he's not eating or it's okay to keep this pattern of feeding. One more thing forget to mention is that he is still happy and active. Thank you for this very informative channel
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm it’s hard to know what is happening for your little one without seeing him. Biting this hands and mouth is common at this age because they have just worked out they have hands which they can control. I would think about feeding him in a dark room in the day as he might be getting distracted by the activity in the room during the day and that is stopping him from feeding. In Australia we don’t typically start solids until 6 months but if you want to start at 4 months just make sure he is well supported in the high chair. You could also see if you could start spacing the breastfeeds at night to 3hourly.

@babilou Meriem My 4month old struggles to feed during the day too, 4month regression can sneak into they daytime feeds. Babies feed better when they aren't fully awake. I have to rock/shush my baby to sleep/drowsy and then she will eat. If she is not asleep or drowsy she will fight and punch so I have to keep rocking to sleep and then once asleep she will feed. You can try something like that untill the regression passes
