I'm back here in 2021. Now in my mid 30s looking back and realizing how my parents and their friends remember their youth. I listen to this song every once in while and the nostalgia strikes. 🇭🇹

It played on a Spotify playlist 4 weeks ago and I was so paralyzed with nostalgia when it played that I didn't take the time to look at the artist and song title. Took me 4 weeks to find it. My God, so many memories and such a beautiful song. Only now in my mid-30s too (understanding more creole) that I'm realizing how empowering of a song it is!

haitian woman is the definition for the word ""class"" this is what they have for real. Dark or light they are very classy, elegant, strong and tender happy whatever they are going through. they are very comfortable in their skin. That makes them so lovable, so unique. They are not afraid to express their emotions. When it comes to love, gosh! they are not shy about telling what they feel. they are not shy to ask their man for it. That makes any secure, good man want to love them all the way.

I think the album Flanm is when Emeline really started to get noticed outside the Haitian community. I discovered Haitian music in 1988 and would drive from CT down to Brooklyn just to buy the vinyl - my first records were Tabou Combo's "Aux Antilles" and "Flanm." 1988 was a good year for Caribbean music. Years later in 2000 I interviewed Emeline for Beat magazine and she was on the cover.
