A 7:00 pm intro to YTV’s Emmerdale Farm (later shortened to Emmerdale) by Peter Marshall in the classic Thames branding which lasted far too long in my opinion. The opener featured farm animals and the laid back lifestyle of the Yorkshire dales, compared to the current titles which show an impending drama thanks to fast-moving Range Rover, driven by a mysterious character.

I have a memory of this...I must have been about 6.5 years old and my father who was 64 at the time was admitted into Groby Road Hospital and we had to go and visit. Whilst I have very, very little memory of my late father, I vividly remember this song playing on the tv in the waiting room. I no longer have my father nor my mother so how fitting it is that today is the 50th week since my mother passed away and this song has just come into my head. May both of their should rest in peace. Aameen.

The opening theme lasted 'Longer' back then as there was a different, slower more gentle attitude towards television, hence yes if you watch todays , its short and snappy, fast moving , to suit the younger generations mood. Thank you for this upload, its how I remember, how I like it and how I bloody want it to be again!

You could always send away for the DVDs. They're not expensive.

The shorter titles and credits are nothing to do with the mood of the curren generation, they are so that more adverts can be squeezed in!

I love the first series of Emmerdale's opening too. It's beautifully filmed in the dales.

These titles, without a doubt, were the all time most difficult thing to see when the sun was shining onto the TV screen. Although, Sons & Daughters' titles were an extremely close second.

Yeah, that Thames Ident was kind of Passe by about 1989 but lingered on until 1992.

Not in the UK, it didn't. It was replaced here in 1989, it only lived on for international branding of Thames programmes until 1992.

@@stickytapenrust6869 The skyline ident was remade to celebrate Thames' 21st Anniversary, in 1989; then replaced by their final ident as a broadcaster the following year. However, the original skyline ident continued to be used as an unbroadcast front cap, through to the end of Thames' time as a broadcaster.

@@electragaming4140 Not quite. The July 1989 21st anniversary skyline ident was replaced in September 1989 by the ITV generic look. In 1990, they introduced that ident you speak of only for introducing local programmes. It was adopted as their main ident (replacing the ITV generic look and with slightly altered jingle) from November 1991 to the end of their franchise.

Yes but they stopped using idents at the start of every programme on 1st January 1988

I remember that regional ITV programmes had their channel idents and then the ident of the regional ITV company would play before their networked programme would air LWT always meant that the weekend was here

Why did they have to tamper with the name Emmerdale farm it was good as it was . Too much sex and violence now..

It wasn't very up to date. I felt the 90s hit the mark quite well. I haven't watched anything much from beyond 2015, with any soap, they're far too sensationalised these days.
