Roses are red, and violets are blue, Primroses pale on a velvet green hue, Warm summer days by cool waterfalls, Like the music we hear, Those things we'll always hold dear, Like an old fashioned waltz. When the moonlight shines down On the Hollywood world, And the heroine waits For her beau to return, And violins play From behind garden walls, How I'd love to remain With the silver refrain Of an old fashioned waltz. As they dance round the floor, And there's no-one else there, And the world is no more And there's never a care, By the perfect lagoon Where the nightingale calls, With only the moon And the nostalgic tune Of an old fashioned waltz. Roses are red and violets are blue, Primroses pale on a velvet green hue, Warm summer days by cool waterfalls, Like the music we hear, Those things we'll always hold dear, Like an old fashioned waltz, Like an old fashioned waltz, An old fashioned waltz.

I wish remakes would go out of style. Emmylou Harris doesn't need to be doing remakes. She has enough talent. As another commenter said, nothing will match Sandy Denny's version. So why not just move on and compose more new material?

You bean we should stop playing Bach and writ our own fugues? What a silly thing to say.
@deetee20635 жыл бұрын
So no one should ever sing Amazing Grace, St. James Infirmary, Tennessee Waltz, etc. again. Good idea.
@johnludgate18203 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Emmylou has redone many, many great songs, sung them beautifully and caused people to check out the original singers who got attention as a result. If we use this logic the early Stones Eric Clapton and the Led Zepellin blues covers should all be avoided. Likewise the Tony Rice covers of Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard's Pocho and Lefty etc etc.

Excuse me. Are you God speaking through an internediary. Probably not. God would be humble. Your opinion is already forgotten.

I admire Emmylou Harris and respect her performance, she is a great artist, but I think this beautiful song is way too high playing field for her limited singing capacity. This beautiful song deserves a much better level performance than what Emmylou can handle. Sandy Denny is still my favorite artist !

I disagree. Have you heard her recorded version of it on her Songbird: Rare tracks & Forgotten Gems album? I thought it was very well done.
