The first time I was introduced to Sushi Bake was during my vacation in Hawaii to visit friends and family. I totally got hooked to the taste. imitation crab got boring after awhile so I switch to real crab. I also made other variations like salmon for protein. I also made other variations using other rice seasoning like salmon fumi furikake, seto fumi furikake, and noritamago furikake. This dish got me so hooked. I also made one with inspiration from gyudon but the shape of sushi bake. I seasoned the rice with sesame oil and sesame seed, a thin layer of sauce (Sriracha, mayo, and vinegar), then topped with the sweet beef topping.

Thank you. Raw veggies and the like aside, raw fish is sashimi (which not all sushi has, and not all sashimi is part of sushi), and it's good to let people know about that misconception that sushi = raw fish. I dunno how Emmy made this mistake having lived in Japan as long as she did, and it does a disservice to her audience (especially people who might be afraid of trying sushi because they think it's all raw fish). Heck, kappa maki is one of the most traditional kinds of sushi you can get, and it doesn't have any fish at all.
@VictoryNibbles

I bought a zojirushi rice cooker and a 25 lbs bag of rice and I’m literally saving so much money by having access to this high quality rice. The zojirushi does an incredible job and so versatile as the rice can be kept warm all through the day making meals and meal prep so much easier. One of the best kitchen appliances, it will have a permanent place on my countertop. The rice tastes better and is perfect every time.

This makes me think of the onigiri bowl I made recently when I didn't have time to form onigiri, so I took my fresh sushi rice, tuna mayo mixture, and furikake and just ate it out of a bowl. Yum.

We've been using Kewpie for several years now and have converted out elderly parents (from the south) to it also. Who would have thought they would ever give up Hellman's. Love it.

I just found out about Kewpie, and I love it! I think I'm going to try and introduce my parents to it, because it tastes a lot like the fancy French mayo we love, but that's impossible to find here. Funnily enough, Japanese mayo is actually more available, as long as you go to an Asian store.

hmmm, i wonder if one could either cook the rice in the tin a bit so that you get a nice crust on the bottom like some Korean rice bowls, or line the tin first with nori. Or both lol. Can imagine lovely fresh prawns and scallops on top.

Sushi bake is VERY popular at Asian potlucks!! I can’t say if it would be the same at a potluck amongst my classmates but my family and friends love it. I don’t use cream cheese but sour cream, and topped imitation crab and baked unagi pieces.. so delicious!
