I always loved Quigley's subtle flex at the end there when he name drops 'Bill Hickok' without adding the 'Wild' to it, implying Hickok was an associate. Marston let that slip right by him; he really should have thought it over!

Quigley is a great Australian western. Good to see the treatment of the aboriginal people was addressed and not washed over. They are great people! Tom Selleck was great and Allen Rickman was awesome as the villain! The one movie I can say Rickman wasn't the villain but a hero is Galaxy Quest. That's a fun watch. Thanks for sharing MC🍒❤️💛

You need to watch "The Man from Snowy River" 1982, it was one of my favorite Australian westerns.

Quigley is more of an American western that takes place in Australia. It is one of the best movies made during the 90s, had a monumental musical score, and showcased an amazing depth in story telling through acting. The Man from Snowy River is more along the lines of an actual Australian western. Also a great movie

Speaking of Alan Rickman, you absolutely HAVE to add SENSE AND SENSIBILITY to the watchlist. He was so sweet and memorable in that film (and plays a good guy here).

Tom Selleck was supposed to be the original Indianna Jones, but CBS TV Network in the US wouldn't let Tom time off to shoot the movie, as he was under contract for the TV Series Magnum P.I. in the late 70s early 80s.

A very good movie, and under rated. You wouldn't hear a pure accent at this time, since convicts were still being shipped to Australia from all over the empire.

This has to be one of my top Tom Selleck roles in an unconventional and underrated western.

Quigley's weapon was donated to the museum in the Bass Pro shop in Springfield Missouri. It is displayed prominently. The museum is free.

Lonesome Dove is proly the biggest western series/ drama of the past 30 years!

A little-known film called Truly, Madly, Deeply stars Alan Rickman as the protagonist. It's a romance and I highly recommend it.

I literally burned out the VHS for this as a kid.

Laura San Giacomo had been in some other movies back in the day, and had a small but stand out part as the friend in "Pretty Woman", which brought her attention, and I'm kind of guessing that this was the biggest movie she had. I've always loved her in this. After this, she started in a sitcom for some years, called "Just Shoot Me". I don't know if she's done much in a while. Tom Selleck was actually the first choice to play Indiana Jones, but he'd already committed to do a TV show, that he wasn't even sure was going to happen, but he decided to stick to his word, and turned Indiana Jones down, and the show ended up being "Magnum P.I.", which was a huge hit in the 80s, and made him very famous, and he was the super hunky guy that all the women were crazy about back then. Since then, he had done other movies, had a recurring role on "Friends" as Richard, which kind of revived his career, and he has a cop TV show now that's doing well, I think. I have a random second hand story about him from the mid 90s. Some friends were driving down one of the curvy canyon roads here in California, on a rainy Halloween night, and their car slid off the road, and ran into the fence of someone's property. The owner of the house came out, and it was Tom Selleck. They were kind of freaked out, and very apologetic, but he was very cool about it, and just told them, "Eh. Don't worry about it. It happens all the time. It's fine." According to every story about Tom Selleck that I've ever heard, he's genuinely a very down to earth good guy!

Rickman as a hero. Haven't you watched Galaxy Quest? And Ms Giacomo was a main character in the TV series "Just Shoot Me". Great show and good commentary; as always with you.

I watched this as a little kid and remember thinking “Oh, this crazy lady is so funny.” And then later not thinking it was so funny.

Farscape is one of my favorite scifi show. It was filmed in Australia. It had a slow and rough first season, but it slowly grew into one of my favorites.

If you're looking for a good Alan Rickman movie where he's not a villain, you should check out a movie called Bottle Shock. It's not really a hero and villain movie. It's, loosely, about a British wine connoisseur, a bunch of California winemakers, and a French wine competition back in the 70s when French wine was pretty much the only wine thought of as being worth drinking. It's more focused than that, but those are the broad strokes. Alan Rickman, Chris Pine (Star Trek), Bill Pullman (Independency Day), and Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) are the most recognizable faces you'll see. Great movie with an excellent cast.

Quigley Down Under is a 5 Star film. I will die on that hill. Kind of funny to realize both "Quigley" and "Crocodile Dundee" are both fish-out-of-water stories. In a way, Australia let us borrow Paul Hogan, in exchange we let them borrow Tom Selleck. It seemed to work out.

Quigley is wielding an 1874 45/110 Shiloh Sharps rifle. Mighty fine buffalo rifle! And, you can reload it much faster than a .50 caliber Hawkins cap and ball rifle.

A Cry in the Dark (1988) is the movie where americans learned about the dingo story. Meryl Streep played Lindy.

Thank you. When this first came out, I guessed that it was a sequel, similar to "The Rescuers Down Under." Eventually figured out that it was a stand-alone. John Hill told me that he sold this script to the studios in 1975, but it took them until 1990 to actually make it. Tom Selleck goes way back. He was the star of TV's "Magnum, P.I." from 1980-88. He had a choice of doing that or being Indiana Jones. Since then, he's done American Westerns, cop shows, miscellaneous dramas, even a few comedies. Hard to think of Alan Rickman playing a hero character. But he's "decent" as Col. Brandon in the 1995 version of "Sense and Sensibility."

Quigley turning his horse around to take one last look at Cora was a touching moment. He obviously remembered what she had told him about Roy.

One of my favorite movies ever. I was 20 years old the year this came out and I knew I was going to love it within the first five minutes of the movie. The story, the cast, the characters, the musical score and the beauty of Australia. Australia was one of the places I would love to have gone to while in the Navy but, sadly, it never happened. I grew up watching Tom Selleck play the title character in the 80's TV series Magnum, P.I. As for Laura San Giacomo, I have seen her in the movie Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Aside from Cora, one of my favorite performances by Laura San Giacomo was in the role of Nadine Cross in the 1994 television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.

It's definitely a more gritty watch, but you should watch The Proposition (2005), another underrated Aussie western. Another is The Tracker (2002).

1983. "The Thorn Birds". TV mini series based on a book by Colleen McCullough. Set in Australia. Stars two Australian actors, Rachel Ward and Bryan Brown. Very good watch. I read the book and watched the mini series.

Tom Selleck starred in several westerns. The Sacketts (1979), The Shadow Riders (1982), Quigley Down Under (1990), Last Stand at Saber River (1997), Crossfire Trail (2001), Monte Walsh (2003). He stars in the tv show Blue Bloods.

"The Man from Snowy River" will always hold the top spot in my heart for any Australian movie ('Mad Max' take your just-deserved 2nd place, but that's not really a 'Western'). THIS movie, however? As an American, I ADORE EET! (And Tom Selleck tickles many fancies, too!) :-)

I will also say, there’s a billion movies out there and most KZfaqrs all react to the same and most common movies. I’d say 70-80 of the best films ever made still haven’t even been reacted to by anyone at all.

Lonesome Dove is the greatest television mini series of all time. Alan Rickman was a good guy in Galaxy Quest and Dogma. Another great Tom Selleck film is Three Men and a Baby. Loved this reaction to an underrated film

My father would rent movies for us as kids, we had to rent the vcr player and everything. We had a family movie and when my mother and sister went to bed, dad and me would watch a war movie, James bond, or a western. This was one of them and he always enjoyed it.
