Most ride closures don't effect me much. I understand change is necessary and usually look forward to whats next. This closure is different. The Great Movie Ride feels like an old friend whose memories I can visit on a whim.
August 13th was the last day the Great Movie Ride was open and this was our last ride around 9PM that night. The host can see and hear our passion and breaks down a bit herself.
The cast tonight was amazing - THANK YOU EMILY
There is a full version of the ride, much more professionally filmed also on BigFatPanda.com
Special thanks to @AdventuresOfADisnerd @DivasDishDiz @DisneyLifeStylers @Spokesmayne

Hey fellow movie lovers-it's Emily 🙂 I am profoundly humbled and flattered by all the likes, comments, and support. I worked for the company as a CP in 2010 at the Magic of Disney Animation (I'm two for two on closures), and while I adored it, I was crushed not to be assigned to GMR. When I came back as seasonal in 2015, I didn't hesitate when my interviewer asked me where I wanted to go. I was one of the first new CMs trained on the TCM script. I am still in awe of the fact that I got to work at this magical attraction for over 2 years. My heart aches for those who, like me, dreamed of welcoming extras aboard their vehicle and will now never get the chance. I am so thankful to have taken thousands of guests on magical journeys through the movies over the years, and I will be eternally grateful to all of you for joining me for one last ride. I'll always be ready when you are, CB.

Thank you and all of your fellow cast members for all of the great work you guys do. I'm sorry I could not have been there to say good bye but you guys did it right like I knew you would. The Great Movie Ride means so much to me as a filmmaker. It is wonderful to know that you and the other cast members cared about it as much as we do.

This was my favorite ride since I was a child and it killed me not able to have my last goodbye. This made my love for movies grow and I want to thank you for all you did. I was already emotional watching this but seeing you upset over it made the waterworks come. This will be missed, a classic in many eyes

karaelizabethkent I'm sorry but I'm not understanding what you mean by not bringing "extras" on the ride. You're sad that you'll never get the chance. How so? Who and/or what are extras? By the way, thank you for making these people's last ride such a special and moving one. You hear so often of people who just hate their job, especially when it comes to Disney (my own experience at the Disney Burbank Studios was a complete nightmare, but that's because of my boss---not the company). Anyway, you leave with great memories so I am very happy for you. Are you still connected with Disney? I have been on the GMR about 5 times thru my life. I was on it the year it opened back in 1980-something (or was it early to mid-90's?) Well, whenever the Disney/MGM Studios first opened. What's happening to that ride now? My fave part was the Alien tribute.

I can't believe I teared up just watching this. This ride had a tremendous impact on me as a child, all the way to now/adulthood. It helped foster my love of the classics, as well as was a ride my entire family always loved riding together. Thankful I got to ride it one last time with the family this past November. Thanks for posting, Panda.

Every time I go to Disney I go on this ride. I even remember being too short to go on TOT and going on this with my dad, and he'd cover my eyes during the alien scene whether I liked it or not. I remember finally sneaking a glimpse of it once and then realizing it wasn't so bad. Then I remember just last year running with my friends to go on this ride since we went to Disney for our high school band trip. We had a great tour guide and laughed whenever the gangster cracked a joke at Jersey, our home state. I always get emotional during the reel of movie clips at the end. My friends laughed when I teared up and I laughed along with them. If I had known it was going to be my last time ever going on that ride, I'd definitely justify those tears lol. I'm heartbroken at the closing of this ride, and I wish the rest of my family could have gone on it one last time. But I totally grew up with this attraction. And for that I thank WDW for those memories. That Mickey ride has some pretty big shoes to fill...

I cry during those moments too! I've had annual passes since I was a baby, and every time we went to Hollywood Studios we had to go on GMR. I sobbed really hard when I got out of the boat. I probably looked crazy, but that ride was part of my childhood.

That Alien scene was originally MUCH more frightening. The alien dropped lower and there was more steam and strobe effects. (The strobes were toned down a LOT after a test audience member had an epileptic seizure triggered by it.) The second alien came out sooner and had more movement. And the area was darker. It was genuinely frightening, and had to be toned down. In fact, the original script of the entire show was darker and more dramatic. (Including a fake death of the host/hostess, complete with blood patch.) About six weeks before opening, Eisner and Katzenberg ordered a complete re-rewrite of the host/hostess dialogue to make more whimsical, a la The Jungle Cruise. About 90% of the script in this final performance is what we wrote in response to Eisner's concerns.

My family and I have only been to Disney World once, we visited in December 2001 to celebrate Walt's 100th birthday. I was pretty young at the time so I only have a few memories of that trip, but one of them was how much I loved the Great Movie Ride. I remember passing through Mary Poppins, Indiana Jones and the Wizard of Oz and thinking it was one of the coolest rides ever. I'm sad I won't get to ride it again, but I'm glad for all the videos of its final days on KZfaq. Thanks so much for posting this! Emily thanking the riders was especially sweet :)

That's very true since so many people are devastated by this closure (including myself). I have a gut feeling that this new ride will be a colossal failure not only because it'll have a lot of hatred from many people but also Disney chose to use cheap special effects rather than animatronics and that godawful Disney XD animation style of Mickey and the gang. I think that this will be just as bad as Stitch's Great Escape.

That's what I really hope. I've been hoping that this was just to renew it and when people get on it they'll be so surprised to see the script is nearly the same, with a few changes to the scenes. But my aunt, who works at Disney, says that isn't the case. But someday, maybe I can continue my dreams into working there :)

I still find it so sad that this ride is being closed. I remember during my second trip to Disney when I first rode this, and being so excited when seeing there was a Wizard of Oz segment. Watching this now, despite it being a decade since I've been there, I remember the majority of this ride. Especially The Wizard of Oz. The ride may not have as much personal value to me, but it's still upsetting to see so many people, even those working on the ride, be so emotional about it closing. I just hope this new Mickey ride will be good.

This made me cry. My childhood, my sons childhood were both touched by this experience and so many great memories of visiting this with my family and my son. It’s gone and cannot be relived. But - I’m glad it’s captured on video. At least we have that. I don’t think that the greed of more revenue should have caused this to be closed and replaced. The next time I visit Disney, this will be gone. I can’t imagine what it will be like to walk into Hollywood Studios and not see this greeting me and welcoming me into the park like an old friend.

She was a Carin terrier, which is the same dog as Todo from the wizard of oz. it makes me very sad knowing that I won't be able to see that scene in the great movie ride anymore. 😢😢😢I know it's kind of a strange connection to have to the ride, but it would have made me smile to see that scene again and seen that happy little animatronic terrier wag its tail.

I am older and hold tradition and precious memories near to my heart. Disneyland IS the most Magical place on earth. When we go there, the park and rides become part of our heart. When one closes , a little part of our heart and memories leave with it. It almost like losing a family member. I grew up at Disneyland. Rode (and kicked out of ) sky buckets and spitted down on unsuspectiong people as a kid. Marched in parades with my high school - EDISON. Went there to have fun and date my husband of 44 years. Memories of Carosell of progress, Country Bear Jambore, Rocket to Mars, Original Haunted Mantian, tree house , Tom Sawyers Island. I never got to see this ride, but I empathize with all of you. Certain rides should not change...it has become part of us. It is still the Magic Kingdom for us all. R.I.P. lost rides, I will see you all at the movies

Thanks to this ride, it helped to introduce me (as a kid) to what would eventually become one of my favorite movies of all time (Alien ). Gonna miss this ride but it's had a great run and I can't wait to see what's new. :)

Brings back such good memories. I rode this as a teen maybe about 8 years ago, and it was the highlight of my trip to Hollywood Studios. Back then, I think there was pretty much only this and 3 other rides, Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge weren't built yet. My host was absolutely hilarious and since I was in the front row, he poked fun at me quite often. This ride gave me a huge appreciation for classic movies. In a way, it kind of reminds me of the Studio Tour at USH, except a little more immersive. It's sad that I'll never be able to ride this again, but I am glad that I got the opportunity to ride it while I still could.

This is not a first world problem. This is emotion. Emotion to a ride that on its own is art. It depicts the art form of film. The guest in turn feel those films and the cast members add their own art flare. So it culminates to this beautiful moment that I also get from rides, shows, or even moments of memories in the park.

I was lucky enough to be there for the last day of the ride. I wasn't able to be on the very last ride but it was one of the last ones. I can remember everyone singing as we waited for the cue and watched Bob Osborne talk about movie history. This ride will always have a special place in my heart. I miss this ride so much.

Why did they close this ride for instead of just updating it with Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Titanic, Avatar and other newer films? There is no need for another Mickey Mouse ride.

Another Mickey Mouse ride? There isn't one at Disney unless I'm forgetting one. And Harry Potter is owned by Universal, so that won't happen any time soon.

This is Mickey Mouse's first ride and if they were to update it now, they'd have to keep updating it constantly every time a movie became irrelevant. We could either open a revolutionary ride with an entirely new system and the most iconic Disney character (and one of the most iconic film characters) of all time or continually cycle through cheap animatronics and rushed production to keep GMR relevant.

Mickey Mouse is a massive global success and anything with him is going to be appreciated by the fans of his and Disney. Of course I don't know whether it's going to aimed at young children or a much wider age group, but Disney always puts a lot of effort in creating the very best ride they can especially with Mickey. the Great Movie Ride will be missed, but I expect the new ride will be popular.

Okay so I have been crying most of the video, especially when Emily got emotional towards the end. I grew up with this ride and love it so much. It killed me that it was closing a week before I returned to WDW and would never get the chance to ride this classic again. BUT on a happier note, when he said "Shut Up Bob Osborne" I died and laughed for wayyyy to long :)
