I am currently reading "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance. I am a 67 year old Northeast Ohio native, lifelong Democrat, and thought I was a "Liberal Feminist". I believe abortion is neither an answer nor is it birth control. My kids moved me to North Carolina in 2017. I realized that I am a conservative, and registered as an Independent. I remember my unborn son and I surviving a crash we shouldn’t have, unscathed. People were shocked I came out of the car just fine. I was deeply affected, grateful, and humbled. I praised the good Lord for His protection and kindness over and over. It left me appreciating and rejoicing more. I pray God uses this in Trumps life for his spiritual good.

I relate to JD because at one time I wouldn't give Trump the time of day. I was wrong. I counter researched the things the media was saying about Trump and realized they were just creating a narrative about him that was simply not true. I saw the light and haven't wavered on my support for him since. Trump is really none of those things the MSM would like people to believe. The man truly is grateful for the support he has.

Robert Charles is spot on about times that have gone by whereas children could go out and be kids, and have very little(almost none) concern for anything bad happening to them. My whole neighborhood played together. We spent very little time in our homes, and almost all day entertaining ourselves with fun activities with our neighbors. The only time we were entertained by something else was in the evening watching a couple hours of TV. We were "glued" to our friends, not some electronic device. We spoke to each other face to face (very little on the phone) so you were also getting clues from total body language .... not some kind of generic distant musings. You really were alive in the 50's and 60's, because you had to engage in life in every way .... we were never bored!

My generation too! My Brothers and I played from morning until sundown with all the other neighbourhood kids. We'd go to each other's houses for popsicles, or down to the woods to play in the creek catching crawdads, picking berries & PawPaws, swimming, riding bikes. We ran loose and free; we just had so much fun and we felt safe. It's not the same at all for kids today and that makes me sad.

I am in California but I am cheerful for Trump's choice of VP. Someone with broad vision but still rooted in the rust belt (and to some extent the broader heartland) is needed. While CA's liberalism and tech provides us with good income, large fortunes and in general good lives, we must not forget a split house cannot stand. It is about time for the two coasts to slow down and bring up the heartland, and together we move forward. Slowing down doesn't mean economically, but ideologically. Respect the lifestyle, respect the traditions and answer their concerns. Being an independent, Vance is the reason for me to vote for GOP this year.
