This was the first black metal song - or shall i say, the first song from a black metak band - that i loved. And it's still one of the greatest metal songs of all time

Prometheus is technically the highest level that a black metal band can reach. In that album there is just perfection, the perfect equilibrium between brutality, aggression, clean technic and beauty.

Love this album. Took me a long time to fully digest and get into it but about 15 years ago I left the CD in my car for like 3 months and just listened to it over and over. So much to listen to and enjoy. \m/

I think this song is a transition from his side project Peccatum. It is very brilliant music

Since you said you enjoy Ihsahn's solo efforts, you might also enjoy the two last releases by the side project he had with his wife, called Peccatum. Lost in Reverie and The Moribund People, specifically the songs Black Star and the title track from the latter release are good option to check out. Outside of that older stuff from Emperor are well worth a listen, especially the album Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk.

You definitely need to explore more good black metal, when I started to give the genre a real opportunity I was shocked on how much I was missing in terms of musicality. I'll give you some recs: - wayfarer - the crimson raider - White Ward - Dead Heart Confession - grima - rotting garden - Seth - La Morsure du Christ - Abigail williams - the final failure No particular order, and I absolutely recommend you the albums of each song

they were pretty much symphonic black metal 15-20y before the genre was named

Greatest black metal song of all time

Emperor's Anthems marked a departure from lo-fi black metal production sound and this album in particular sounds so greatly produced I could not believe this to be Black Metal. I think musicality shows in all of Emperor's work, but songs like "I am the black wizards" or "Inno a satana" hide it thanks to the aforementioned black metal production, so much so that I recommend to listen to live recordings if one is interested.

This album never did get the recognition it deserves even as emperors final album though its mostly ihsahn plus samoth and trym as opposed to being the band emperor
