Empire and Larping community in general is super amazing when it comes to looking out and supporting people with anxiety and similar issues. On site there are several safe zones where people can take a moment to come out of character and relax a bit , and online you can become a member of the 'spoonie and disabled empire larpers' Facebook group, where you can vent about your mental state while larping. The community has got your back. There a lot of larpers who deal with psychological conditions so a lot of people know how real the struggle is! All you need is just a LITTLE little self-confidence to help you take the first step.

This was really helpful to someone who plays games such as Dungeons and Dragons and likes the feeling of dressing up as their character.
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 7 жыл бұрын
It's the best isn't it? If I run a tabletop game I often use costume bits and props to help play and look the part for the players. Also some of the groups I've been in as a player have had special days where we dress up in our character costumes to wear as we play. No shame here, if it's good for a laugh its good for me!

Pretty surreal after hearing this to see you over at Rick's channel! I'm hoping after this whole COVID mess to come. It's very reassuring to hear an enthusiastic guiding voice in a (seemingly awesome but) complicated game.
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 4 жыл бұрын
A good kind of surreal I hope! So glad you liked the video. The enthusiasm I think comes from a place of empathy, as I know all too well how hard it can for Empire to be your first LARP game. So I wanted to make something I would of liked to of seen when I first started. I hope I see you on the field after COVID finally fecks off.

Me and my D&D group are planning to come next summer after the finish our exams. At the end of each session we discuss empire and how each others costume creation and weapon/item gathering is going and we're all so hyped. This really helped explain everything more as grasping most of the information off the wiki took a while and this will help me sum it up to some of the busier people in my group so thank you.

That's incredibly awesome to hear! (Such Wisdom and Ambition. YOU MAKE THE EMPIRE PROUD.) I'm delighted that this was of use to you and your friends and I hope you all have a splendid time in 2018! What nation are you guys going to play?
@izabella4242
@izabella4242 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We've been playing D&D for years so Larp seems amazing. Im surprised it took us this long to see if there was any we could go to. We're going as Wintermark, we each picked top 3 so we could all be in the same group and it was our combined favourite on average. Still stuck on a group name though, we're never very good at that, still haven't named our adventuring party and we're almost about to end this campaign and start a new one... Any suggestions?
@NewLuigiNegativeZone
@NewLuigiNegativeZone 7 жыл бұрын
Sounds very compromising. Here's a few questions to ponder that might help you find a name: - Which of the three peoples in Wintermark do your character's originate from? - How was your group/ hall formed in your backstory? - Do you have a favourite animals or mythical beast that's Empire/Wintermark themed? - Are you guys specialising in a particular skill together? - What is your group's primary resource? (As in, did you guys pick the same resource in character creation?) - Does your group run a unique business back home? Are they candle-makers, hunters, rangers, innkeepers etc? Hopefully in answering these questions you will find some inspiration!

Know what LARP lack of?Outlaw.Thief,Bandit,Assassin,Enforcer...Hired some one like that to trouble your enemy in the way is just fantastic.Hired a thief at night to steal your enemy stuff(return at the end of the game) and vanish into thin air,cover with the night as a cloak.Bandits is a group of player whose doesn't belong to any faction than their own and will trouble along the way if you don't give him gold,or steel.Assassin is a pro mercenary which could end you with a blink of an eye but also,vulnerable.Enforcer is class that protect you along the way with "Pay-to-play" for each day he/she with you.And the good thing about this class is that the enforcer can be an escape path for you in an ambush if you leave him with the enemy.

I wish there was a huge larp group (like Empire) that would establish a larp for every country. This way, it'd be way easier to know everything since you can travel from ex. Germany to Sweden and know everything such as the map, the perks, skills and so on. If everyone has their own larp world and different but unique things, it's fine of course but if we had one huge community, it'd help A LOT! I live in Finland and I wish Empire was held here. I've never been larping properly (only with like.. 2-3 friends when I was younger) but it has been one of the thing's I've been wanting to do the most! I love to talk in different accents, voices (I'm pretty much addicted to dwarfs but sadly, I'm not very short for my character.. ehh, I'll just be a tall dwarf ;)), fantasy, battles, swords, other geeks so why wouldn't I want to! It's brilliant! Oh, and greetings from Finland ;D this video was AMAZING! Subbing :)
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 7 жыл бұрын
Walrus that would be amazing. In the mean time you could search online to see if you have any sizeable larps close to you, or see if you can find a smaller local larp you and your buds could go to, local groups could always use extra hands monstering or playing NPCs. Dwarves are awesome, have yet to play one myself though, its on the list. Thank you ever so much for the sub!

@hunterfindon1018
@hunterfindon1018 7 жыл бұрын
Oh man. Right, so my understanding of the Voyage North is that it is just the program that sends a bus to your area to pick you up right? If that is the case, I'll just drive. Thanks, mate. As someone who went there, do you know that admission price? I can't find a hard number anywhere. It's strange considering how big a LARP it is and that any other LARP's price is shown right off the bat.
@damightystevo
@damightystevo 7 жыл бұрын
Not quite, TVN gets you your Bico ticket, food for the week, shared tent sleeping for the week, membership into a guild, and a community (an extremely toxic one albeit) to interact with before the event. It doesnt send a bus to your area at all, theres just a shuttle to and from Montreal airport. It costs $1500 for TVN, but for everything that TVN provides you could get independently for about $600. However, Bicolline isnt really a LARP tbh. Its mostly a renaissance fair crossed with a music festival unless you join the geopolitical game, which is nigh impossible without a large guild. All in all, Bicolline just isnt worth it. I'd recommend waiting until November/March and buying a ticket to Collage of Wizardry or something. Now THATS an amazing LARP experience.

Hi Josh! I just popped in an annotation over the scene you're referring to. Hopefully that should help new larping folks avoid damaging their weapons.

Hi there Leo! I hope to see you on the field and I hope you have a wonderful time this E3! New Player meetings are now at 2PM and 5PM on the Friday. Good thing you asked! Sadly annotations are no longer a thing so I haven't been able to update the information.

i would love to be a part of that! only thing that stops me are some of the rules and limitations. i love strategy, so it not for me since i love being a part of a big, well orignized plan. Larp is just you do you, with other people. anyways, sounds very cool

I think I see what you mean, but could you possibly expand on which rules you're referring to? Otherwise I totally understand if you prefer a system that plops you directly into the command seat, rather than being one part of a massive whole. That's what makes tabletop and local systems so great.

One way around that is that you can ask to carpool on the 'empire lrp: travel arrangements' facebook group, a lot of people agree to take a taxi together and split the cost.

Start on the wiki, look at the main plot on the plot summary page. Then look at the nations. See which one you think will enjoy the most, get to know the existing players on the forums and Facebook groups and/or see if you can drag some friends in. Finally, register on the main website and start plotting a character!

I have never actually LARP'd myself, but have been gathering bits of gear to do it here and there for years. Its my dream to go to an empire event some day... But i am so shy I am terrified of going on my own, and I dont know a single person who would come, because everyone i've told about larp thinks its really weird. *sigh* Maybe some day. :)

I know this is like 6 months old but as much as I don't blame you for being scared to travel solo... Brave it go and Suprise yourself for what you can do :) I know I probably won't find any friends outside larp to begin with if I go ( IM in damn Australia) so if I do and can (cost wise) go then I have to try to seek for people already playing. Like Holly said :) There has to be someone in nations looking for people to take under there wing.

Warsong runs in Brisbane, but if you want large LARP you're probably gonna have to do Swordcraft Quest in Victoria (swordcraft.com.au/) though less RP focused as this is (growing out of a battlegame).

Oh absolutely! But they're just not presented in a traditional way. It's very open world where you find quest like scenarios, OR you make your own trouble-- I mean fun. If you like combat there's the main battles and the skirmishes. Otherwise there are NPC's walking around the camp you can chat to and potentially source some game from!

I live in Sweden so I am not really ever gonna be able to attend Empire as much as I'd love to but... I did have an interesting question that I got by watching Tabletop Weekly's video about newcomers... Do you have musicians? I have always been interested in LARPs such as Empire or at least what we got in Sweden but I thought I was just gonna ask because I got curious about it; do you have folks that roleplay as musicians and if so, how do they do it? Do you have taverns where they can play or anything like that or is it simply just not one of those things that folks usually roleplay as? I am just asking as it seems like a VERY basic character that would be quite interesting to play as if you got any particular instrument you can play so... I just got curious if this exists in Empire. I'm gonna ask what LARPs around Sweden do but... my question, music - do people roleplay it or not?
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 7 жыл бұрын
Hi AE! Who knows, maybe you will one day! Don't give up hope. To answer your question - have boat loads of musicians! They're all players though, PD doesn't hire anyone to play music, players provide their own instruments and talent. It's beautiful thing too - you can hear people practising all through out the day during time in, and when it gets dark later on you can hear people putting on full on performances either in tents or around camp fires. There's no musician skill in the gaming sense though, no bard classes or anything like that. If you can't play an instrument in real life it's best not to play a character who's musically included in Empire. Unless your character is incredibly deluded in his own ability xp
@ArgentumEmperio
@ArgentumEmperio 7 жыл бұрын
Haha, I was guessing that one was gonna get the second portion of that as I figured I made my question a bit odd. But thanks, its one of those things that I love about roleplaying because music is real no matter what it is and it just adds to the setting but I have never heard anyone talk about it. So thank you, awesome to know there's plethora of folks who do play music like that at larps or at least at Empire! ^^ Thank you for the response! :D

This may be a dumb question, but are other nationalities allowed? I'm norwegian, but i do of course speak english. Regarding the lore of Emprie; is there a place in the Empire world that have people with a scandinavian accent or something similiar? Great video btw :D
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 7 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all! Truth is at Empire it doesn't matter about your nationality. Sure the nations are inspired by a few different countries and their history/mythology but where your from in real life doesn't really matter. You can be a Dawnishman, Freeborn or Imperial Orc with a Norwegian accent all you want my friend!

Would you turn up in costume or is there a changing area? Are there coven things for people interested in magic? How do you become art of them if there are? sorry for all the questions but this seems awesome and i super want to try it
@HollytheSmall
@HollytheSmall 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Catt. Typically changing depends on where you're staying, if you're in a hotel, you change there, if you're camping you change in your tent. You could change in the showers if you wanted too. When it's time-in people try to be in costume in the in-character area by then, but if it's time out or you're in a out-of-character area it's totally fine to be out of costume. There are A TON of people interested in magic. Lots of covens dotted about all over the nations, the best way to get involved I'd say is either investigate in character around Anvil or at the Conclave, or you can ask on the forums and Nation Facebook pages before-hand to see if a coven is looking for a new member (or are willing to let you be an apprentice if you just want to try out being a ritualist without spending the XP) Darling you can ask as many questions as you like! You can ask me, or the rest of the community on FB or the PD Forum.
