Installing an Emportia Vue 2 on my electrical panel - complete setup, including connecting app.
This device is a smart energy monitor, which allows me to monitor my power consumption overall and on specific circuits.

Thanks a lot for posting this video. The pace was perfect. I didn’t have to constantly pause the video to process what was said and everything was easily understood.

@@bigneilh I just watched the video and the main breaker is off at that point although I agree I would check with a multimeter before touching anything

I am surprised that you need to work in the fuse breaker box with live power on the wires of the main entry cable. In Europe, there is an automatic fuse/breaker switch in the metering enclosure to cut the power coming out of the meter, so no electrocution danger there, because there are no live wires or connections in the fuse box.

Nice video. However, I think you should have put the meter on its own breaker, and then for S and G, monitored that circuit and see how much it uses :-)

Thank you so much for the video. One question, Does the air conditioner use the same power from L1 and L2? If it is unbalanced Multiplier won't work. Correct?

Im an electrician and we normaly use energy/power data loggers to measere the total energy consumption of a building. The emporia energy meter your showing is actualy a more simplefied version of these energy data loggers. What your calling sensors are actually CT'S ( current transformers ). And normally to measure the total energy use we would place our CT'S only on the 2 phases or 3 phases entering into the main circuit breaker. So you dont need to use al 16 CT'S. You could just use the 3 big ones and you will be able to measure your total energy consumption.

But then I wouldn’t know which circuits are consuming what. Thanks!

I am preparing to install this unit in my main panel and have watched a few install videos. It seems that a common complaint is the long length of the cables, but one thing I did hear from one person is how nice it is just to be able to plug in the jack as opposed to trying to connect two tiny wires for each connection. It seems some very good cable management is very important! I will be putting two of my sensors on a double pull breaker that I use to back feed my panel in case of a power outage. So based on your video, I do need to go through the steps for the solar/generator, correct? I was thinking it meant specifically”Solar Generation”. Also, I’m guessing that the sensors going on the wires leading from the generator to the breaker should be put on in the opposite directions of those monitoring the various circuits, since the ‘service will actually be going into the breaker (like the main) and the load will be energizing the two hot busses. Is this correct? Thanks for the video. Btw I will take all the suggestions of double checking the breakers to make sure they aren’t energized, even after shutting off the main. Never can be too careful with electricity or firearms!

That's how I connected my generator connection & I reversed the direction of the sensor like you indicated & it reads the generator output perfectly.

This rule should help if you have doubts. The arrow that goes from K to L, it indicates the current flow from generator (K) to the load (L). Generator being what generates the power (grid, solar array, etc.) and load (lights, appliances, etc.) being what consumes it. Also, don't ever attach the CT sensor to a wire that could potentially be energized without first connecting the other end to a closed circuit. You could damage your CT sensor that way if the wire suddenly becomes energized. Even worse, you could shock yourself if you accidentally touch the other end if the wire that the sensor is attached to gets energized.

Hi for dryer which is 240, 120+120 , you only put one lead for the dryer 120 or can/only add one lead on one of the 120?.
@idothings6605
@idothings6605 2 жыл бұрын
For 240 circuits, you can put one sensor on only one of the hot wires, then from within the app you select "2" as a circuit multiple - see in my video at 28:10. Most 240 circuits pull equally from both sides of the panel which is why this works, but you should confirm this is true for your circuit. Alternatively, you could put a sensor on each side of the circuit and measure each side (120 + 120) individually. Thanks for watching!

@@idothings6605 The motor that turns the drum is probably 120V - that allows the mfgr to sell a gas version that doesn't need a 240V outlet. So just monitoring one side is a little off.

The panel with the first disconnect (ie. main breaker) should have the ground bus bar and the neutral bus bar bonded. All subsequent sub panels should have the two bus bars isolated.

Neste caso você irá usar as duas pinças. Caso esteja realmente em um circuito monofásico , eu não sei saber se 100A é viável. De qualquer forma, você só precisará uma pinça. Mas veja se no painel existem 2 (buses) corredores onde o disjuntor está conectado. como mostra no video de instalação.

The directions explain what to do if it is only 1 hot coming in from the utility. You only use one of the 200amp clamps. But the power wiring is different, so be sure to follow the directions carefully.

Very informative video but please be careful with your approach. I will not say that you were totally careful. The Feeder breakers (along with Main breakers) should also be tripped before making any sort of wiring. Do not use an uninsulated tool to point the main live wires from utility.
