How do we create graduates fit for the future? Employability is a strategic priority for Higher Education and while work
placements or internships can provide industry experience, we need to think more broadly about how we can embed
employability skills within the curriculum itself to ensure equity of experience for all students.
This case study based on a 15 credit third-year elective, ‘MDS30021 Podcasting and Radio Production’, demonstrates
how podcasting developed students’ employability skills and knowledge, through a module narrative based on industry
informed asynchronous (involving content creation and curation) and synchronous learning components, and through
authentic formative and summative assessment based on group-work and critical reflection.
This session explores how the production of a podcast contributed to students developing skills and knowledge vital
for student success and to support graduate outcomes. It draws on students’ own critical reflections to demonstrate
how the subject has provided them with a breadth of core skills for their future careers.
