Empress Effects ZOIA does not just offer a complicated way to use a regular multifx pedal. It gives the user a lot of options to create unique effects. I tried to explain this in three categories (Switching, Control, and Routing) with simple patches in this video. I also included examples of patches utilizing different features from these categories together.
You may be able to find some of these effects or features in other pedals (envelope tremolo or modulated pitch delay for example) but you should keep in mind that I created these to be simple to explain and understand, and it is possible to do way more than what I include in this video.

This pedal impresses and scares me in equal measure. The possibilities seem truly endless for fiddling that can become composing-a wonderful process-though this bottomless potential also suggests anxiety that one might never actually get any playing time in or writing/recording finished due to completely disappearing down the hole. Would absolutely love to try one though!

Beebo has the same advantages shown here when compared to regular multi effects pedals. The specific effects will sound different but the general idea is the same.

@@DoNoise Awesome! Make sure you download the latest firmware! I use the Beebo side of it exclusively, but the Digit side has a lot of awesome IR Reverbs!

Hey! Would you say the standalone modulation and space effects are on par with today's boutique offerings? I'm looking for a multi-mod/reverb/delay/pitch box for things I rarely use on bass. Would you recommend it ? Killer video btw.

Thanks! The effects are very good but if you’re just looking for a multifx pedal I’d suggest you to get something that’s more straightforward to use. ZOIA is great if you know you’ll adapt to its unique interface. Otherwise get something like an HX Effects.

Do Noise - thanks as always for a great video. I am thinking about swapping out my HXStomp for this now I think I have an alternative solution for looping, but I use it as an amp/cab sim. Could the Zoia do that / replace that part of the Stomp adequately (I just want a decent basic clean jazz style tone as a base for other effects not a whole bunch of accurate amp sounds).

I don’t like ZOIA as an amp/cab sim replacement. I’m not really particular about very accurate amp sounds as well, but ZOIA’s cab sims aren’t enough by themselves. I didn’t try hard to get a good sound, though. Maybe it could get better with better eq settings, compression etc. Ask people on r/ZOIA as well. Maybe they’ll be able to offer more insight.

Love the video! Thinking of getting one but I also see the Mod duo x having limitless potential. Do you have an opinion of how they compare to each other? :)

Thanks! I have no experience with the Mod Duo unfortunately. ZOIA has a great online community sharing patches and it really lets you take full advantage of this pedal. Maybe you can check if Mod Duo has a similar community around it.

@@DoNoise makes sense! I know that Zoia had a limitation of no descriptions for the patches you download. Is that still the case? :) or you have not heard od this?:)

The patchstorage pages have descriptions but I’m not sure about descriptions within the pedal. There’s a ZOIA group on Facebook with some people from Empress. Maybe they’ll answer better than me :)

If you need amp and cab simulations and easy “pedalboard” interface go with HX Stomp. If you want to experiment and want as little limitations as possible go with ZOIA.

Thanks! I wanted to show the features and possibilities, rather than making a tutorial (which would make the video way too long). I uploaded all of these patches so if you have a ZOIA, you can download and check them out. Cuckoo's videos are really good if you want to learn how to create stuff, and he connects everything in parallel, IIRC. Also check out this channel: kzfaq.info
