Mr. Collins was the artist who encouraged me to try singing after I learned to play the drums. I found out I could sing while playing the drums and I was able to play in club bands for over twenty years. Of all the great drummers who inspired me, Phil is at the top of the list.

He has a typically British droll sense of humor. Quite a few years ago now, he appeared on Arsenio Hall's late-night talk show, & said to him: "You know, in the U.K., we like to address friends by their nicknames; so, is it alright if I call you 'Arse'?"

This man SO SO great. With Genesis & Solo. You need to hear him play for Robert Plant Little by Little or In the Mood. Plant is the former Lead Singer of Led Zepplin. Remember Great Music Comes from Real Artist that use Real Instruments for Real Music. Notice no Dancers, No auto-tune. No off Mic. its all him. Now to this day His is being replaced by His Son... Note Phil is left handed. also note during that solo he is back by Chester was back bone his music and Genesis until his son started to take over. Long live Collins..This song is about him getting a Divorce. Lord Im so damn blessed to have grown up in the 70s & 80s When there was so much great ARTIST that Made OUT OF THIS WORLD MUSIC. Not like todays want a be crap of remakes. You need to hear him do the song called ABBA Cab Live by Genesis. Then you can truly understand just how great this man was.

If this is one of those clips, it doesn't matter whether you've heard the song or not you have to see it. Not knowing the song allows you to be surprised. But knowing it means the anticipation builds as he strolls up the stairs and towards the drumset, and that may make the drum intro even more shocking.

That song has such a dark atmosphere that doesn't fit with the mellow ballad singer cliché people think about when mentionning Phil Collins. You can hear the dark side of Phil Collins on "Mama", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Guide Vocal", "Dodo/Lurker", "Take Me Home"... Such a unique artist. Been a fan for a long long time

If you are going to watch it again, watch the first live version. Apparently, this happened decades ago. Phil Collins was super young back then. I tell you, the emotion he displayed on this version cannot hold a candle to the early version. Don’t be dissuaded by the smaller amount of views. After watching your reaction (which was great), I went to take a listen to the early version. It really is that good and really worth watching. His emotion and drumming, omg.

Phil is absolutely a drummer, singing came as an "aside" (probably out of necessity), but as you can hear, that's pretty good too. His (and/or Genesis's) at times went so far that there were radio stations that refused to play his/her songs because one listened to them all the time. He once said in an interview that "it's not my fault if the radio and TV stations keep playing my songs...", which he's right about. Either way, it probably didn't really harm him and his band.

Love your reaction. I felt the same way the first time watching this version (had to come back again). So dramatic. Such a build up, such a vibe. Nothing else like it. You would like Phil's other songs and also his work with Genesis. In the 70s he played drums with them, singing with Peter Gabriel who was the lead singer. Great music. When Peter left for his solo career, Phil ended up singing and drumming. On tour Chester Thompson played drums (you could see Chester briefly in this video). Look at live Genesis concerts, they are special.
