It's what he represents. Oblivion is simply the end for you meaning just choking on a hotdogs and die then that is when it was him. He represents the end of you and the use of you becoming something for a new creation.

But we should have no narrative value for Oblivion's case unlike for Empty Hand, where our actions of demanding for Darkseid to be brought back after Darkseid war has put the heroes in danger in Infinite Frontier. And for me, I think Grant Morrison is the best explained of the meta stuff, so his character(Empty Hand) is more defined with tangible implications to us. As for Oblivion, it hasn't been made clear whether the Reader is the entire Marvel scape or something else, but for Empty Hand, it's the collective compulsion by the fanbase in seeing heroes battle bad guys and the Crisis on Infinite Earths events which cleared up the DC landscape just as the fans wanted, which the Empty Hand referred to as the Multiverse which he destroyed.
