I've read elsewhere that it's the plumbing which is the biggest challenge. Getting pipes to go to kitchens and bathrooms that didn't previously exist is very difficult

No problem! Should be plenty of women plumbers that can make that happen!

Older buildings are cheaper, because they are reasonably small in terms of their floor area and have better access to light, air, and certain types of plumbing.

These types of units are perfect for people that can afford them, want to live in that particular area and brings buying power for the loca businesses to keep them open. Each solution is not for everyone. It will take grants, tax incentive and more to create affordable units with the cost of construction and labor.

Affordable housing doesn't solve the problem a surplus of housing does. Giving someone a free or government subsidized apartment does nothing to bring down rents. Apartment vacancies however do.

Great idea turning office space into apartments or classrooms.

It’s not always that easy and sometimes the price can be extremely high to convert office building into living space and I know to the common person it does not sound logical but the electrical loads and we’re all the plumbing is located was permanent in concrete. Then you come to heating and air conditioning and humidity control. You might be able to convert a square box into a living space, but maintaining comfort or energy efficiency might be another issue, especially in a hot, humid climate with somebody who has all south facing windows that gets sun all day long the heating load can be immense and cooling bill, quite high for electricity .

I slept in my office all the time (LOL) 🤣, this is NOT going to create affordable housing, doing a conversion is expensive, and for cities like Boston, it will be more painful for the upscale marketplace condos in downtown. These buildings would be better classrooms and dorms.

They won't be affordable, so what's the point?

They'll take some pressure off of the other places, and that will hold down rents in some other areas where they might have otherwise continued to rise sharply.

An increase in new rental housing units in cities should bring down the cost of the less desirable urban rental options. Or landlords of the less desirable units may upgrade their rental units to stay competitive in the rental market. Either way is good for renters living in cities. But there still must be a good reason for those renters to live in cities, if many of them are no longer commuting to an office job in the city. Cities would have to offer something else that is not available in the suburbs or rural areas if a lot of office workers now can easily work from home. Will there be more social activity options for young singles in the cities? When many singles "meet" via social media? More options for entertainment, education and fine dining in the cities? When nearly everyone could get their entertainment and education via the internet? And could get meals or meal kits delivered directly to their front door? If not for employment opportunities, there must be some other good reason for living in a crowded city that has limited green space and a lot of noise and air pollution. It will be interesting to see what happens over the years if there is less and less reason to work in an urban office building.

Why does the video quality look like this was filmed in 2008?
@YanBrassard
@YanBrassard 11 ай бұрын
because the television didn't switch to 4K yet. I think that's because the initial investment of changing all of their equipment for 4k compatibility would be expensive and the price would not be worth the additional profits that it would generate.

Duh. and everywhere and anywhere, you have ghost buildings, even right in the most needed areas, that could be clinics, habitual, and cover for most in need, like children, and mothers with child. But its just not.

The fact it took this long is stupid also not every building can be done like this its just simply office space and cant be changed to anything else because thats how the building was designed.
