For the ones who is wondering what is going on: Altec 604's are one of the first loudspeaker drivers intended for high quality sound monitoring and reproduction (circa 1944).

I like how a serious sound analysis can be done on a video, at best it can hook you by its liveliness perhaps. But to think listening to a home recorded video will allow you to hear the nuances is humorous at best. Maybe I’m being overly critical but I couldn’t help it after one of the previous comments. The EMT record player is legendary and the homemade amp, from the description of using true mesh plate 300bs, is very cool. I would imagine this stereo is a killer.

I'm guessing the small boxes are auxiliary tweeters, what are you using? Having listened to a few of your uploads my impressions are very good. The system is for listening to music and not listening to the equipment. Relaxed and natural, an aural delight. Based on KZfaq sound with HD600's and Bottlehead Crack headphone amp. PC has an Asus sound card.

Thanks! Yes, the boxes are ribbon super tweeters Dick Sequerra Pyramid T9. Lately, I sold these super tweeters. After rewiring by Duelund DCA16 wire, my speakers sound open enough without super tweeter. The drawback of the super tweeter - they mask midrange.

Very nice system and gorgeous cabs! I want to do the same with some big tannoys one day. Very nice sounding. Two questions: Your amp (must look from phone and can't scale close enough) are those 300b or 2a3, and what brand is the amp? What is the recording? (Sounds much like Bill Evans' old trio, each of them. Influenced by them to be sure.) Are these Japanese musicians? Or Americans recorded in Japan?

There are Japanese musicians: Takashi Mizuhashi, Masaru Imada & Tsuyoshi Yamamoto. My amplifier use 300B output tubes - EML mesh plate. I think Altecs are much easier to drive compared to Tannoys (even Red and Silver).

@@alexanderberger6960 thanks very much. (Is the amp by Air Tight?) On second listen the piano player sounds like a mixture of styles between McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans IMO. A wonderful player, as are the others. Thanks very much! Ill be looking into those guys. I've never head a big pair of altecs. Their rep is stellar. For some reason Ive been wary of horns but really from lack of exposure. I loved every big tannoy I ever heard. Ive long wanted to hear altecs and this didn't help 🤤🤤🤤:D. Great setup. Thanks for your time.

@@user-un5iz6th1n It is a DIY amplifier. Input tube: 1/2 of 6sn7, driver 6f6 in triode mode. Output transformers big 30W James Audio. Coupling coupling capacitors Duelund Custom Cu. goo.gl/photos/S25aReL5jyTuAF1G9 All dual concentric Tannoys use horn tweeters. Basically they have very similar construction to Co-axial Altecs like 604 and 605. Regards, Alex.

Lowe med isn't good, I don't think. Sounds resonant. other than that it's nice and sharp on the piano. Lower med and upper bass is like it's merged, and piano and bass don't sound very separate. But that could be the recording or/and the room. It isn't anything to do with those huge cubical cabinets is it?
