It depends on how and where you ride. I'm nearly 70 now and I need a lot more protection than I did when I was younger and bounced back quickly. A good, easily adjusted helmet has saved my head quite a few times. Some excellent lightweight Wiley X prescription wrap-around safety glasses from my working days work well offroad. The number one essential body armor has turned out to be some Troy Lee D30 elbow pads. I left a lot of blood and skin on the trail before I started using them. I thought I needed knee pads but it turns out my crash style hasn't involved my knees (yet). I invariably land forearm and elbow first with my fists bruising or tweaking my ribs. I started using a good lightweight hard plastic Alpinestar chest/back protector this year, but the last couple of rides I didn't wear it, even though it's well ventilated, because the temps have been over 100 degrees F for the last 62 days... The gloves I wear are cheap and no-name. I had some Specialized armored gloves but they are full of tiny cacti spines that I can't even see. Are there cacti spine resistant gloves out there?...Oh...I forgot to add that my favorite bike shoes of all time have turned out to be the light but sturdy Tredsafe (Arlen) velcro closure work shoes from Walmart. They are very resistant to brush and water and stick to my flat pedals like glue.

Emtb protection…. Same as mtb protection. Dont fall for the e-moniker marketing BS. Saying that I bought some emtb socks today. Soooo much better than mtb socks for mtbing.

My EMTB socks help me jump 30% higher than my MTB socks. My dress argyle socks lower my jumps by 10%.

Started doing more jumps at the park and bigger drops on the trail, so just got POC hard pads and a Smith mainline full face. Also have a TLD A2 helmet and G-form knee and elbow pads for easier trails in summer.

SHIN guards! 😉 Get your gloves at a Tool Supply shop. Armoured and/or w/padded palms for WAY less $$ You can also get tinted safety glasses at the Tool Supply shop for CHEAP 😉

Protection options for people with glasses? I wear glasses and I have actually changed all of them to polycarbonate. If I do crash I won't have shards of glass in my eyes. Another option I suppose would be to get Lasik.

Hey! It may be worth looking at MTB glasses that accommodate for glasses to be put behind them. Similarly, you can purchase MTB sunglasses that have special magnification inserts. We hope this helps! 👍

Inexpensive protection is better than none. I went end-o at low speed upon hitting a root DH. Impacted the ground head first. The cheap helmet saved me for sure. I remember the hit to be cushy as a matter of fact.

You're right! We'd always suggest buying the best protection you can afford to help keep you as safe as possible! 👍

Great video guys! I just wanted to mention that I bought a full face helmet recently and because I ride alone quite often, I like to have my earbuds on and listen to a podcast or something, but there’s absolutely no way I can plug in my earbuds into my full face helmet - nor any other brand full helmet I think. So be mindful of that if you like to listen to something when you’re riding and are looking at full face helmets!

Highly recommend protection to anyone riding. With that said i wouldn’t recommend anything from G-Form. Poor stitching is a well known issue across their line.

I need some recommendations for both protective riding glasses/goggles that work well over prescription glasses please! PS for everyone Normal glasses are NOT enough protection!! I'd been wearing just my prescription glasses riding in my own yard, and I was getting so much dust, pollen, gnats etc in my eyes daily that eventually I got an eye scratch a few weeks ago just casually riding! Luckily the scratch no longer bothers me but now I have a permanently gooping eye every day, it's just not worth risking riding without proper eye protection

I have Pro-Vue rx goggles and wear Oakley Rx riding glasses. The goggles are otg style to fit the rx insert which makes them a little bigger keep in mind if purchasing to use with full face helmet. No issues with Oakley use their transition lens but would like to try their own dedicated trail lens sometime.

In my other comment, I mention I use lightweight wraparound Wiley X safety glasses with prescription lenses. Mine have scratch-resistant coating and auto sun darkening added.

You can get cycling glasses with prescription lenses, I picked up a pair of Oakley glasses that are kinda cycling specific, but were easy to get prescription lenses fitted too. They're wraparound and offer good protection, never had any issues with flies/dust/rocks etc with them!
