Enable the Double Tap to Wake & Lock Gestures on Samsung Galaxy Devices

OneUI for Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets have a gesture you can enable that allows you to double tap the screen to wake the device up and to put it to sleep.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet that runs One UI then I want you to be aware of two gestures that you should look into enabling. The gestures are for double tapping the display to either lock the device or to wake it up from a locked state. These are great features on their own but could also help to prevent you from wearing out the Power button too early.
They're also great for those who have a Power button that has broken and no longer works or is damaged and has trouble working properly.

We can find the feature by diving into the Settings app, then going into the Advanced Features section and then tapping the Motions and Gestures option.
The two toggles you should look into enabling are labeled Double Tap to Turn On Screen and the one right under for Double Tapping to Turn Off Screen.
The first gesture works just as you would expect. Any time the device is locked and the display is not active, you can double tap on the display to wake it up and view the Lock Screen.
The second gesture we enabled here requires that you double tap on an empty spot of the Home Screen in order to lock the phone or tablet. It can take some time getting used to knowing this gesture only works on the launcher, but it can be really useful once you get the hang of it.
I've been using these types of gesture features on Android since the LG G2 days, and really miss it when the OEM does not have these options available in their stock firmware.

Why does mine have the option to double tap OFF the screen but not double tap to turn ON the screen?

What do you call a screen that appears after a single tap? On my phone it gives a monochrome calendar, time, battery power, etc. Trying to get the same onto my tab, but can't find how to... Not to be confused with the unlock screen that appears after a double tap, where then you can swipe and take steps to unlock.

a feature like this requires the phone to have specific hardware. this is usually added to flagship and mid-range devices but can sometimes be left out of low-end of mid-range devices in an attempt to save the OEM money

@@ExplainingAndroid I don't think it's about "saving" money but making money, if you want that feature pay the extra dollars to get a top-of-the line phone ... I was looking for this feture in a S9 Galaxy running Android 10 with One UI 2.5 and I cannot find it - pay the dollars, buy a newer better phone
