Enchainment (2022) Climbing all NZ's 3000m peaks in one continuous push

Inspired by the human-powered enchainments achieved in Europe, in early summer 2021, Alastair McDowell & Hamish Fleming set out on a quest to enchain New Zealand’s 24 highest mountains above 3000 metres in a continuous 31-day push. This would be a transalpine journey, from west coast jungle to high-alpine summits, traversing some of New Zealand’s most dramatic landscapes. But with the clock ticking down, fatigue mounting and storms arriving, would they be able to complete the project before their time, weather & luck ran out?
Producers: Alastair McDowell & Nick Kowalski

I climbed for a month back in '89 (Cook,Tasman,Aspiring) and it only rained one day which happen while we were traveling on the bus to Aspiring. I guess you can say we lucked out on the weather. lol

Well executed film capturing an epic adventure. Had a crack at Aspiring a couple months ago, hard to fathom climbing this peak after Cook, several other peaks and a lazy ride in between. Kudos to the lads. Cheers for Aspiring some new ideas in both film and climbs when I cross the ditch next.

What a great watch!! Congrats Nick on an outstanding capture of a really significant achievement (I've been enjoying your channel for a while and this is next-level stuff mate!). Alastair and Hamish, I love how you capture the grinding fatigue of what you did - and the way that exposure becomes harder to tolerate - I only know this from four day missions, not what you guys did!

Fantastic film, really inspiring. A couple of questions on your trip. Did you have some support on the journey, we noticed some gear switching mid way and fresh food that we're guessing might have been brought up to the huts? On some of the glaciers you roped up and some you didn't so as the route went on, did you find you were taking more calculated risks like that? Well done on the trip.
@amcd061
@amcd061 9 ай бұрын
Thanks, we had food drops cached in 5 huts, it wasnt fresh food though. Those greens were left by some others in the hut. What gear swapping did you notice? We roped up for the majority of glacier travel as needed.

@@amcd061 Thanks for taking time out to reply, it helps us with some of our own projects, not as ambitous as this but helps a lot. On gear swapping I thought I noticed a switch from curved tech axes to more mixed axes on the long section but maybe my eyes decieved me. It doesn't matter either way as my questions are more to do with help on logistics and planning. Your vid is really helpful. Thanks.
