STORY
Atop a hill in France, we stumbled upon an unusual house that looked like something out of a witch's storybook.
Upon further investigation, we discovered that this house once belonged to the Sers family from France. It was constructed in the early 1900s by Mr. Sers as a residence for his wife and five children. After his passing, his daughter Bernadette transformed it into her creative retreat where she painted all of her masterpieces.
A few times each year, Bernadette traveled from Paris to this hidden house in the middle of nowhere to focus on her artistic pursuits. As the years went by, she gained a reputation as a renowned artist, her paintings were displayed in galleries all over France.
The house is overflowing with the artworks she created throughout her lifetime. Each room, each corner, holds a new chapter of her life story, told through her creations.
It's clear that she didn't come here alone; there are remnants of her husband and children scattered about. The reason for their absence and refusal to claim their belongings remains a mystery to us.
Sadly, Bernadette left this world at the young age of 71.
Join us on this journey as we bid farewell to this incredible woman and her enchanting witch house.

As an artist and art historian, I am very moved by this visit to the vacation home of the artist Bernadette Sers. THANKS! Concerning the little paper notes everywhere, I believe that they were intended for the maintenance staff during the owners' absence (I am French speaking, the notes seem to be more instructions than reminders for a person suffering from senility). Regarding the dried plants in the small basket on the vanity in the 'girl's bedroom', it is most likely lavender. But how is it that antique dealers and booksellers have not raided this house filled with treasures linked to Bernadette's life (the Alexandre Bataille piano, the chests of drawers, the carved tablet with a head wearing a tricorn hat, the leather chairs, the cauldrons, the wooden hangers, the old map of Europe, the marble fireplaces, the cradle, the old newspapers from the time of the 2nd World War...)? And what about the sketchbooks and the very beautiful painting in the 'girl's bedroom'? Why hasn't anyone collected them to sell them in a gallery or put them up for auction???? I am saddened by the idea that all these relics of Bernadette's life are doomed to destruction...

I feel this way watching almost every video. That's why it's important to capture these on video for everyone to see. These guys go out on foot to search, they aren't doing a records search at the local govt office. And these property records would probably not be digitized either. If you can find information about the families online somehow, you still don't get home addresses or have any idea that their property was abandoned. Not the same as the US. Hopefully people who might use these types of vids to track down properties are the types of people that want to give back to communities although I imagine some really wealthy investors that don't care.

I think the house has been abandoned for some time. More than a decade in any case. Bernadette died in Paris on 20 April 2000. That alone would be 24 years. Who knows if she was still in the house in her last years. Thank you for sharing this video. The house is wonderful. Love your videos!

What you held was a rocking ink blotter (un tampon buvard, in French) used to absorb the fresh ink left by fountain pens. If you google it, you'll see lots of photos. You could unscrew the round part on top in order to remove the part below and change the blotting sheet (papier buvard, in French) when it was too stained. I'm from France, my grandfather had one like this on his desk, and my Dad had another one, both wooden - I loved using them when I was a young girl and wrote letters or homework with ink, because it felt so special and kind of romantic :) I wish I still had it... I've seen some made of semi-precious stone, and of metal like pewter. I still use blotting sheets when I write greeting cards and want the ink to dry quickly.

I always feel sad whenever i see abandoned houses... we don't know the full story why the owners abandoned their house really. In 2019 Our family house was foreclosed by the bank because they tricked us and we are forced to leave and left our belongings we are going to get our stuffs back (as the bank said we can) we just need to find a new place to stay but covid hits us so we couldn't go back there in time but my father's brother buy the house demolished it and get all our stuffs they didn't even asked us if we want our stuff back, after that our family were not the same anymore. Oh and my aunt made fun of us in social media too.. how cruel.

Omg, I fell in love with that house. And that photograph showed how beautiful it once was and can be again. I would purchase that house, renovate and come there when I need to get away from the states, if I could move there permanently. The view from the balcony window was amazing. I'm glad I clicked the title to your channel. Thank you so much for sharing the interior of that home. As you both were walking through it, I was amazed that nothing had been broken or destroyed by human hands. Had that house been in my state, everything would have been stolen, broken, trashed and vandalized. That's a house where time has stood still. I can imagine how beautiful it must have been when it was loved by the people who resided within those walls. Thanks again for your video. I'll be watching more. ❤

Greetings from North Carolina. The clips on the wire in the beginning of the video are called clothes pins. That plants on the piano are called money plants because they resemble coins. The appliances in the kitchen look very small from today’s standards. The kitchen and bathroom is very small, just enough room for a toilet. This is a true time capsule. What a shame that the beautiful paintings and wonderful memories are left to decay. I bet at one time that house was filled with people making lovely joyful memories. I love the shape of the house, I prefer to call it a dollhouse because I had one as a child that looked identical to this house. This a wonderful video, thank you for sharing it. ❤

In the music room, on the desk, the item that rocks and looks like s stamp is called an ink blotter. They're used to absorb excess ink when using a fountain pen. Finland declared its independence from the Russian Empire on December 6, 1917, shortly after the Bolshevik Revolution.

Google translate says that the sign in the closet may be translated into English as "Emergency clothing for everyone". Also, the metal container with the holes and handle in the middle is for ricing or mashing boiled potatoes and the brass rocker you thought was for affixing stamps to an envelope is actually a blotter, for drying ink when one is writing with a fountain pen. The dry purple stuff in the box on the bureau is lavender flower heads used to scent the room when it was fresh.

One thing that used to happen, at least in France, during the 1960s , 70s , 80s - people used to loose their entire inheritances due to gambling addiction. My father knows at least 4 french men who inherited castles etc and lost everything in casinos or betting on horses, ended up homeless... That could be an important factor in understanding why so many properties have been abandoned precisely during those decades.

Hi Lesley, very interesting video about that house with this unusual shape. - Besides some heavy traces of decay some of the rooms still have a time capsule vibe. The art work, which was left behind, was quite beautiful. - The piano you pointed out in the living room, is not a "grand" piano but an upright piano. Surprising, that it still sounded quite well. I again loved the instructive conversations with Danny, who also has a considerably wide knowledge about a lot of subjects! Respect! I loved the beautiful background music and the excellent camerawork from Danny. Wonderful explore video! I am already looking forward to your next explore adventure. - Enjoy your trip together with Danny in the USA! - Stay safe, and take care. Peace and kindest regards.
