Following your positive review of the Musical Fideity M3si Integrated Amplifier you might want to look at its cd partner the M3scd player. I have this playing through the Musical Fidelity M6si Amplifier and it is a superb match. I am totally with you on cd being the best and only way to listen to reproduced music. I do have hopes that there are signs that cd is beginning to show some signs of life again.

I have a CDT9000 which replaced an Audio Analogue CD Transport which I didn't get on with. The screen was too small and some of the functions never worked. Briefly I had the top of the range Project CD Transport which I sent back as it would not read some CD's. The 9000 CDT has been trouble free at present. I am using it with a Geshelli Labs J2 Dac which is fitted with the AKM 4499 chip and Sparkos Op amps and QED reference Optical cable to connect to the Dac.

Hey and thanks for watching my videos it is appreciated. Really glad you are satisfied with your CDT, I just checked Geshelli Lab DAC and it looks so nice. Hopefully it sounds the same. It is such a nice CDT, that will grow as much as you invest in your DACs, because of its superior electronics inside. So it can last for a very long time.

Thanks for this review. Couple of questions. How long did you test these items for? Did you purchase all of them or were they sent to you by the manufacturer/distributor for review? If the latter, do they let you keep the items? Also, in terms of the sonic performances, what mechanism makes them perform different than each other? Especially considering the the conversion is handled by an external DAC.

I bought this CD Player like 6 months ago. Mate, look I have 260 subscribers... In the eyes of manufacturers I don`t exist. Nobody sent anything to me, nobody contact me to send me anything. I bought this myself, and any other gear on this channel. :) I always wondered the same thing, and watched few blind test videos that say that all the transports sound the same. I personally try to learn as much about HIFI as possible, but I still seriously lack technical internal knowledge of devices I listen. But same like AMPs, it is its inner construction(the build quality), the way signal path travels from laser to you DAC. It is about quality construction that cuts resonances, vibrations, laser quality, trey quality etc. Through what components it goes through when reaching DAC, should also create different flavors of sound. In the end it is electricity we listen and how it travels from source to output gear, and it can change with every component it interacts. If your system have big resolving power, all this details will mount to create better sound. Now, I know this is incredibly general vague explanation, as I am not someone that can provide engineering professional grade answer. I review things that I hear, and compare to similar devices I heard, listened and owned. You can even see that in my reviews I always focus on sound, characteristics, features, ease of use... something that I can quantify and test to other gear. How internals work of all those devices I rarely speak in my reviews. But the same to people tell that all 1000e+ AMPs sound the same, or all the digital cables sound the same. Even DACs that have, for example ESS inside, in Cambridge Audio or in Topping etc. sound little bit differently with deferent characteristics in different casing with different electronics. Do all of them sound the same, I always say maybe... but test them at your local store if they sound the same to you, than buy the cheaper one. I dont know how much help I provided here, but always pay for the system you think sound better, but remember more expensive gear gets "unlocked" as the rest of the system gets better, and room you listen gets better.

I respect the 9000 but it's out of my price range. The one I was interested in was actually the 7000 which no one has reviewed out there so far. Plenty of 6000 vs Cambridge CXC reviews around. The 7000 sits in between, maybe closer to the 6000 then to the 9000. Great insights imparted in your review.

I think is that audiolab only collaborate with really big KZfaq reviewers. And they are usually not so interested in cd players. And when you buy from your money you buy cheapest and most expensive stuff, so you will have biggest range to cover. Unforuntaly it is what it is. I don't have expiriance that much with 7000, but certainly it has bigger upgrade path than 6000 and it should sound a tiny bit better. If you have money go for 7000, and eventually upgrade dac along the path. For better sound. I hope this helped. 🙂

If you can sell 7000cdt at good price, than yes upgrading to 9000cdt is a big step up, and I would recommend. But just buying it at full price, will not bring maybe monumental leap you are expecting. It is just more richer device, with better bass and a bit better soundstage and imaging. It is certainly a better device, it is you how you perceive value, will dictate is that upgrade beneficial. And yes, I love when people give me music recommendations, I will now go to listen to Casandra Wilson. Thank you.

I’m listening to Cassandra now. ‘New Moon Daughter’. Track 4 Death Letter is simply amazing!! Even with the 7000cdt/9000a/Oberon 5s I can not imagine better. But I will try. I do not expect massive improvements now. I will accept small improvements in quality. This is the audiophile reality. But it is fun. The only thing I never understood is that people say ‘the bass is not amazing on the Oberon 5s’. I am VERY happy. ‘London Grammar’s’ track ‘Rooting For You’ ends with a 6 hz bass rumble. My speakers sound awesome. Maybe a subwoofer would be better, but for my taste it is perfect.

Take it to manufacturer and request a fix or new device. You have a right to do that. The thing is, I listen to CDs frequently, and have this device for 6 months now. I don`t have that problem, so it might be just a faulty unit. The problem you describe usually appears in slot in mechanism, not CD trays, so it is just bad luck.

As a best value Marantz is far better, as it offers great refinement and resolving power and overall rounded package out of box. Audiolab 6000cdt with decent DAC (200+ euros) is more richer in its midrange, and can be more open. Marantz have that more kick and drive, while detail execution and presentation is more on Audiolab side.

Well I bought a Yamaha CDS303 paid 348 delivered. I feed a Bryston BDA1. Now, as to prerecorded CDs they suck! Garbage compressed crap. Now, there is no way a cd will ever compare to my Rega P6 with Exact 2. No way ever. Now, I make magical cdr using my trusty Harmon Kardon CDR20 from the p6. The bass the sound quality just great. The conclusion is the cd formst can be worthy. Make cdrs!
@HIFIDaydreaming
@HIFIDaydreaming 6 ай бұрын
Hey man, thanks for watching my review! Well yamaha cds303 is a budget cd player, you can not compare it with audiophile grade turntable of P6, try cd player in the same price range of 1800e. Try some music fidelity cd players, or regas even maybe cyrus. Maybe rega saturn mk3, and who knows maybe you will change your opinion. Maybe. 😁 But with any reproduction of media, to me it is important how good the record was produced and mastered. If it is a sloppy job, with dynamic range being a joke, than no matter the player (tt or cd) it is going to sound weak and compressed. But in the end we all gravitate towords what we like, if the vynils are your thing than just rock on, and hopefully one day you will have P10, at your home or some other exceptional gear.

I am using the Yamaha as a transport with a DH Labs D750 coax cable into a Bryston BDA1 DAC. I have a Rega Planet 2000 that has a bad laser good luck repairing. The next step for me might be a Bryston BCD3 but at 4500 a lot. The Rega Saturn is a possibility but their Apollo fiasco leaves me a bit cold. The Yamshs while cheap is a decent unit the DAC in it surprising.

@@JohnDoe-np3zk I would just get a Redbook only cd player. Its a cleaner solution and you don't have to worry about matching separates and picking the right cables. If you are willing to get something used, an Ayre AX-7 or a Wadia 301/302 would be really good choices. If you want something a bit more laid back, an Arcam FMJ series are very good. The analog section of a CD player usually has a bigger effect on the sound than the digital side. For example, the Ayre sounds like an Ayre. If you like the way their amp and preamps sound, you'll get more of the same with one of their CD players. I would also consider giving The Cable Company a call. Have them send you a few players to demo before you make a purchase. They really know what they're doing and will help you make the right choice.

Dude it's a budget transport with a nice case, a high speed reading platform and the most basic 1990's digital outputs with a sparsely occupied empty metal case, I would not waste the money on it, all it is for is to have an aesthetic box to go with the amp. It's an afterthought thrown together frrom the parts bin. Around £200 worth with a label. Personally, anything slot loaded, not interested, it's not hifi, anything with a PC based CD rom style drive so bad it has to read discs at high speed into a buffer or do multiple reads, not hifi, your as wel buying a basic DVD player, open it up and pretty much the same sort of internals. The sad fact is the majority of CD transports and CD players are budget cheap junk in overpriced cases with nonsense about them being high end, the majority looked at whats the cheapest parts we can dress up to milk the enthusiasts with when digital conversion kept improving. Now look at digital audio in studio's etc, the best dac chips on equipment with AES and i2s connections, fully balanced with headphone and pre functionality. Most DAC's are now being built into integrated amps as they did with receivers for years because its cheap. The error correction making it much of a mockery to go crazy, yet there are brands out there making proper hifi with actual CD transports with actual CD transport drives made for red book CD, with DAC's available with great value build and componetry, the issue there is crossing from analytical tool to something you can listen to for hours that makes music and not simply stripping it down to the bare mix with every wart. The real test is spending £300 on a studio dac for a home enthusiast and £3000 on a hifi dac for an audiophile, and comparing the technology, subtracting the fancy case work, and actually listening to the guts of the equipment, you will be surprised when you remove prejudice and placebo at the nuances between both, the percentage in perceivable difference vs cost and percentage. Even worse is when you add most modern speakers with drivers so small in tiny cabinets your actually missing around 30% of available frequency and scale.
