Its the only non-Terminator movie where he dies. I became emotional when I saw it at the movies because it made me realise that time passes and no one lives forever. Arnold was my hero when I was a kid, and seing him not be this invincible superhuman made me sad.

"When flying poodles seem to travel much faster than predicted by theory, researchers start mumbling incoherent gibberish about futuristic metal cockroaches destroying the world to sway the narrative. In Lagrangian points there will be a build up of sunflower seeds when chain reactions occur due to cyberpunk accelerometers. If you want to stick your head in the sand and pretend that poodles don't fly, go ahead and do so, but that won't change the facts about emus. Everyone should own a rubber chicken for a surreal experience motivated by ideological agendas and not anything remotely connected to the pursuit of vector spaces of wave functions. The mass of the system must be conserved with equations of motion garnished with the isospin symmetry of liquid nitrogen. It is a reality-based analysis. Trust and believe that it’s mathematically similar to lots of neat thingies. The importance of critical thinking about the Van Der Waals force is what enables spicy kimchi-flavored ramen to keep up appearances with rarefied gas particles. An orange cat grooming a blue rabbit will consolidate gravels on ancient lake beds. The spice must flow." ---Albert Einstein

Still didn't catch until owning it on VHS (which I still have). I'm among that crowed echoing it's probably Arnies last good film. If Cameron had made it the female character would have developed into a badass like all his other female characters by the end. The movie would have focused more on the dramatic elements of why people would be tempted by Satan himself and why they would join him as opposed to being against him and the soundtrack would have been a bunch of rock and rap songs over and over. Cameron's movie would have been more about the drama with the action coming from the drama of the story itself and the female lead would have gotten more development into her life drama-wise. What we ended up with was a silly but entertaining Arnold vs Satan movie in the standard action format and formula.

12:12 Peter Hyams is a very underrated cinematographer, his low-key style of lighting is exactly the same style DPs like Roger Deakins are using nowadays - but Hyams was doing it in the 80s and 90s, on film and with no digital color-grading. While "The Relic" was a bit too extreme (I reckon the anamorphic lenses didn't help), "End of Days" (shot on Super35, much easier to handle in low-light scenarios) is probably one of his finest outings as a DP and some of the shots in the movie are majestic. I reckon Arnie didn't like it because he is used to be perfectly lit in every shot, while Hyams very often went for silhouettes. I think the visual style is one the things that stand out the most in this flick, along with the score. The script was messy unfortunately - even idiotic at times: calling the sniper priest Thomas Aquinas like the medieval scholastic philosopher is the kind of stuff only Hollywood people would deem smart. Also, while I am a big Schwarzenegger fan and I appreciate his attempt at widening his roles, I think the story was way out of his range: playing a tormented, suicidal ex-cop is something that calls for more than just charisma.

I love in the movie where they find the priest crucified on the ceiling and the theory is he did it to himself and the big brained argument against that theory is "how did he get the last scalpel in?" As if getting the others in was possible.

That starting trailer/montage made this look like another indestructible Arnold adventure. However I thought it actually played more like a 'actual movie'. One of my favourite of his flicks.

A great retrospective once again Ollie Harper. I had no idea the critics were so negative. I've always thought that End Of Days is one of Arnie's best performances, for range like... proper credit to Arnie for really showing the deep emotions about his dead family. Also, when you said "...just facing off against some supernatural threat" I think that's a bit harsh too, because the threat is the actual Devil! and that segways into the most iconic bit of the film for me, being how Arnie's the only man in history to call the Devil a "fuckin' choir boy!" 😅🤭😆🤣

Underrated Arnie flick. Yeah this was pushing into his stinker era, but it has cool action and some decent spookiness.

I got my copy of In Search of Darkness 3 - i can't wait to soak up them 5hrs of 80's horror glory!!! I always enjoyed End of Days - a great Omen-styled film and anyone who doesn't like Omen is a twit!

In my opinion this film is underrated, I feel that Arnie was wrong about Peter Hyams lighting. The lighting has to be dark to give it a sinister look. Peter Hyams is a great filmmakers with films like Capricorn one, Outland Running Scared, Timecop etc.

Fun Fact: The director of this movie, directed the comedy-supernatural movie, Stay Tuned with the late great John Ritter. It was also a movie about humanity's struggle against The Devil.
