We have very similar styles. I do simplified Abeka Language Arts from Pre-K to 3rd grade. It's such a strong phonics program. If you liked Abeka but are looking for something gentler with a focus on writing, BJU press is a great option. We also switch to Teaching Textbooks for Math in 3rd grade. I've also used Masterbooks Science Life, & Heaven and Earth, as a spine, I love thats its divided into units so we can do it unit-study style, which my kids enjoy. I also love 4 year cycle classical history programs like the MOH & SOTW, it gives them the entire picture of history which I would have liked growing up. We do a visual timeline notebook which we can reference often and learn. I am on the fence about using IEW too, I like that there is video instruction so it takes that load off the teacher, but it is quite an investment, still not sure!

Our family has participated in the Safe Families for many years and I know well the joy and the jolting change when new kids come into your home. I keep Funschooling journals on hand to help us out with that for sure because the whole house gets a shakedown until things settle lol. You handled that like a champ!! I have never gotten into IEW either. Too complicated for me!
