Here are this year's curriculum hits and misses. I'm thankful we didn't have too many misses this year! Most of the misses wasn't the curricula's fault, but the fact I failed to actually use it. But you can't always get everything in each year, and that's okay!

I love going over our homeschool stuff and I planning the next school year! So far we are sticking with master books, Rod and Staff and for math we are with The good and the beautiful. My oldest has shown an interest in life of Fred for math so we will try it and see!

We loooove Fred. Upper levels are no joke! Don't let the gentleness of the elementary years detour you haha. My 8th grader took about 15 months to get through prealgrebra. Fred definitely stretches the brain and deep thinking

We loved Science Shepherd this past year because my big kids (9 & 7) loved watching the videos on the computer together and doing the student books together. It was something they did after all their other school was done and they did it almost every day and I didn’t have to stay on top of it! 👏🏻

My son is going into 4th grade and he needs some help with memorizing math facts. We love Apologia Math but I definitely slacked on the math facts practice so we will be spending the summer working on memorizing math facts. 😬 Going to check out the math video now! 💃🏾

All about learning is a solid program. When my child finished a level at an awkward time and I didn't want to start the next level, we would buy an Abeka reader (used). They worked so well with keeping up with phonics skills.

We got a cheap (like $5) agenda book for my oldest and it worked so well for us to write it down each day of what she needed to use. I’m considering a digital planner this year (especially for her work)

Oh yes, I forgot about a digital option! She kind of has that with the homeschool hub from BJU press. I guess we could input all of her checklist in there? Thanks for reminding me! 😀

We use Explode the Code as well and are using Bob Books as readers. Once we finish ALL the Bob books I'm thinking of transitioning to the All About Reading readers. Level 2 seems to fit well after Bob Books.

Can you link the narration notebook? I like that it has the drawing on just 1 page, it would be better for longer narrations than the Primary journals I have been using.

@@JoyfulNoiseLiving Thank you!! Loved all your reviews BTW! We started using MWC this year for my 3rd grader and he is loving it! ETC is always a hit, which I don’t know why! 🤣 I should give IEW themed a chance. Structure and style was too much for my reluctant writer, even in 5th grade. Thanks for all your videos 💗

Hi, how did Spanish go?
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving 10 ай бұрын
Oh, that's right! I forgot to update on it, so sorry! I ended up using TalkMom.box and it went okay. We were consistent with it in the Fall, but fell out of routine in the Winter and Spring. With Simple Spanish, I couldn't find a time to fit it in this year either. I picked too many things and we had a lot of out of the house commitments as well. (I talk about this in a recent video as well, decluttering my choices for what we do for homeschool and simplifying it). I'm using Maserbooks Family Spanish now and incorporating Simple Spanish in again here and there also.

Is the life of Fred just a reader?
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving 10 ай бұрын
No! It has the story part, and then it has "Your Turn" practice problems. In the lower levels there are 5-6 practice problems, plus a few math facts practice. I am not sure what it is in the higher levels. There may be more practice as they get older.
