When the prophecy says that one kingdom will “crush” another it does not necessarily mean that the kingdom will capture all of the land of the previous kingdoms. It could mean that the new kingdom will replace the previous kingdom as a ruling power or authority. For example, when Daniel interprets Nebuchadnezzar’s dream he informs the Babylonian king that: *“in your hands He (God) has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all” [Daniel 2:38].* Yet at the time of Daniel, Babylon had not conquered the entire world. So, we know that Daniel was not being literal but rather employed hyperbole in his geographic descriptions. Each successive kingdom might have had different borders but historically we know that they did get bigger in terms of land mass ruled over, culminating in the Roman Empire which was the biggest of the kingdoms. So, from this perspective Rome is perfectly in line with Daniel’s description of the fourth kingdom. Traditional Judeo-Christian interpretation of Daniel 2 have always been that Rome is the fourth kingdom until the emergence of Islam. Professor John J. Collins, a leading expert on Daniel, mentions how Rabbis distorted its interpretation after the rise of Islam: *“The prevailing interpretation identified the kingdoms as Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome (often represented as Edom)...Eventually the sequence was adapted to take account of the new developments, specifically the rise of Islam”* It’s apparent that Jewish and Christian commentators only started to link the fourth kingdom to Ishmael after the advent of Islam and its subsequent establishment as a world power, as they knew the implication was that Islam was God’s kingdom.

An interesting question haven't really considered before. You made some pretty compelling points to support your hypothesis that Islam may indeed be the fourth kingdom described in Daniels famous prophecy of these four key world kingdoms. Time will tell the tale here eventually.

How eye opening! I have never even heard of this theory before today, and I’m not young. Clearly, the Islamic empire fits the biblical criteria in ways the Roman Empire does not. Thank you for this information! This is why happens when the lions share of biblical interpretation is done by people who are not of the biblical region. Daniel 8: The forth Kingdom (that raised to the heavens) grew out of the horn of the He-Goat (Alexander the Great's Kingdom). And it says specifically it appeared as a Lion (Babylon), a Leopard (Persia), and a Bear (Medes). So, Antichrists territory (which consists of ten kingdoms that give their power to him) stretches from Turkey in the West to Kashmir in the East (and may include Egypt since they were ruled by Persia as well).

Just finished watching the first season of The Rise of the Ottoman Empire on Netflix...the Demise of Byzantine Christianity Mat 1453 In watching this series, Joel.....I keep pondering on the question as to why the Ottoman Empire was ignored in the vision of Daniel's idol under traditional interpretation. It does need to be considered and contemplated upon. A couple of interesting observations that goes along with yours in thinking of the Roman Empire is that did not change any of the principalities (God's) of Greece but renamed them. Greece culture and the language of Greece stand on its own. Furthermore, battalions often were composed of men from the area where they lived. It is almost like there was an assimilation of empires much like bronze is an assimilation of and handful of metals. Also Rome never maintained the area of Babylon in which the dream of Nebuchadnezzar's statue was given. As a result, this would seem to rule out the Roman Empire as the best fit for being the legs of iron. Could it be that.... the legs of Iron were the Safavid and Ottoman empires??

I agree but we still have one issue that you need to teach on. “The one with the black horses is going toward the north country, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south.”” ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭6:6‬ ‭ Why is the white horse and the west associated?

European Powers or European Colonial Empires had conquered, devoured, treaded down and broken all over the world. I think this historical facts fit to the description of Daniel 7.

The Islamic caliphate fell apart in the 1920s and the region is occupied by different nations today. How do we present many different nations as one kingdom just on the basis of a common religion?

Another thought, though the Roman's may have been "unified", I would argue they were far from a willingly unified empire. Consisting primarily of conquered people. Be it by concession or war, they were conquered. Thus not "really" unified.

You need to go back to Nimrod and the tower of Babel and start from there.

The Roman Empire occupied the same territory occupied by the other empires. So when we are told it will crush and break all these others into pieces, it is referring to the fact it occupied the same territory. It crushes them. It is powerful. It is significant. It is consistent also with the fact that the Roman Empire was the next empire that occupied the land of Israel. It also defeated the Grecian Empire. So logically it should be the fourth kingdom.

I have always assumed it agreed to the iron being the Roman empire but you have caused me to think twice. Again considering Islam is waiting for the Mahdi. It could add up including the Ezekiel 38 39 war which is led by Muslim states. Also those who say Jesus is not the son of God, the Christ, we know Islam opposes this.

Daniel 7 shows us those kingdoms using 4 animals. The fourth animal being the fourth kingdom. The fourth animal is the beast with 10 horns. Revelation 17 tells us that the beast with 10 horns is a kingdom which was, not is, but will rise again. So how could it be Islamic empire when at the time of revelation there wasn’t even Islam? How could it fit the criteria of a kingdom that was?

Rome also did not “culturally” conquer very much at all. People kept their own languages, literature, religion. But Islam’s conquering was a deeper and fuller, conquering. Latin use did grow, but only among the leadership classes. Roman religion did not catch on very much. Rome’s empire was a military conquering, but, for the most part, Rome usually tolerated much variety, as long as taxes were paid to Rome, and the conquered ones did not start violent rebellions against Roman occupation.

Neither. It’s not Rome because Daniel says to Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel chapter 2 that God “has shown him what will come to pass in the later days, in regards to the four kingdoms. So it’s not Rome. He also says the gold (Babylon), silver (Persia), bronze (Greece), iron and clay (one world government) are all crushed together when God defeats them. So these four kingdoms are coexisting on earth at the same time when they’re destroyed, instead of them existing/being destroyed one at a time like we see in history. We also see Christ reigning on earth immediately after the fourth kingdom is destroyed. Rome has been destroyed for centuries, but Jesus obviously is not physically reigning on earth yet. Rome is not the 4th kingdom. It’s the same in Daniel 7 with the four beast. The four beast are the four metals in chapter 2. Gabriel also tells Daniel in chapter 8 the interpretation of the ram (#2 Medo-Persia/silver) and the goat (#3 Greece/bronze, “understand son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.” The ultimate fulfillment of these prophecies did not come to pass through these ancient kingdoms. They were a foreshadowing of the End Time ones that will rise in “the time of the end.” So the 4th kingdom likewise, will not rise till the End Times. As for Islam, I’m totally with you that there will be a significant amount of influence from Islam, but I don’t believe it will be Islam itself. “But in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and A GOD WHICH HIS FATHERS DID NOT KNOW he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things”(‭‭Daniel‬ ‭11:38‬). And remember, this is taking place in the Middle East where Islam is everywhere. Also the antichrist is Middle Eastern and the Word says he’ll “honor a god WHICH HIS FATHERS DID NOT KNOW.” On top of that Daniel 11: 36 says, “HE SHALL EXALT AND MAGNIFY HIMSELF ABOVE EVERY GOD.” That includes Allah. The antichrist will be the one people are demanded to worship, not Allah.

The Roman Empire later turned into the byzantine empire or the "Eastern Roman Empire," and was the longest lasting which fits perfectly with it being the long iron legs. Wouldn't the Roman Empire fit this detail perfectly and not Islam? Also "its deadly wound was healed" fits the Roman Empire which was revived and not Islam. I'm researching both theories . I think the 4th kingdom may be a combination of the Roman and Ottoman empires, that morph into the Jesuits and Muslims. The Jesuits spread west and Islam spreads east. They will eventually come together on the opposite side of the world from Israel, which is around New Zealand. In other words, the empires begin around Israel, then spread east and west until they meet on the other side of the world. Just my guess.

It is important to remember that Daniel 2 is not about all the empires of the world. Daniel 2 focuses on the kingdoms since 605 B.C. to the end of time that occupied the land of Israel. The Babylonian Empire occupied the land of Israel. Then the Medo-Persian Empire occupied the land of Israel followed by the Grecian Empire. History tells us that the empire that next occupied the land of Israel was the Roman Empire. Also Rev 17 talks about woman sitting on 7 hills, plus John identifies as one Kingdom that is which was from his perspective Roman Empire

It could not be more clear the 4th kingdom is Rome. Lines up EXACTLY with the final beast in Revelation and that (Revelation) describes the Roman Catholic Church to a "T". The Roman Empire has existed in so many forms the past 2000+ years. People get hung up on the 4th beast needing to be a new kingdom of some sort, when in reality it is the Roman kingdom that has existed in so many forms continually, with the current form being the Roman Catholic Church. Daniel 11 is all about the transition from Medo-Persia to the Greeks to the Romans. Who was in charge of the Jews and Israel down the stretch of the inter-testamental period and during the time of Christ and the destruction of Jerusalem/temple? The Romans. Who is being referred to in the last verse of Daniel 11? The Romans. They had set up total control of Jerusalem at that time. Daniel 12 picks up with the end of the Jewish age/nation in 66-70 AD when the Romans destroy Jerusalem and the temple. That is the permanent end of the age of the Jews, as we know when Christ died on the cross ALL people became ONE. Constantine merged true Christianity with Romanism (Babylonian Mystery Religion) to create the false doctrine that dominates the world to this day. He did this as a tool of Satan, since Satan learned that persecution of the Body of Christ was only making them stronger, he opted to infiltrate the Body of Christ with false doctrine. The current form of the Roman Empire/Kingdom is the Roman Catholic Church and the office of the papacy is the antichrist. No one single pope is the antichrist, the office of the papacy is the antichrist. The majority of Revelation is fulfilled and is the story of the judgements on the Roman Kingdom over the past 1900+ years. I pray that people will truly open their heart and mind to listening to something besides the futuristic view of the 70 weeks of Daniel, it is all based on that. If you understand the 70th week of Daniel was fulfilled by Christ in the first century, your mind and heart will open to the truth of bible prophecy that is hidden from so many.

Four Kingdoms in Book of Daniel are Babylon Kingdom, Medeo-Persian Kingdom, Kingdom of Ionians (also known as Grecians) which divided into four, and Kingdom of Israel (104 BC to 70 AD) which is the fourth kingdom. I covered everything in detail in my video (in my channel) on Kingdom of Israel .

“Islam” is somewhat nebulous. If there was an empire that swept the known world at the time it was the Mongols. They were swift, cruel, and destroyed everything in their wake. Daniel couldn’t sleep for weeks after he saw the vision of the fourth beast. In past talks you’ve struggled with the fact that Greece never split into exactly four kingdoms after Alexander. Well, the Mongols did (Khanates) and the one among the four which rose to prominence was the the Ilkhanate group which became the Ottoman Empire. This beast got the “head wound” after WW1 and the next thing we watch for the for the wound to heal and see the return to life of the Ottomans.
