Please note: as of 3/31/22, ARK’s clients own greater than 1% of the shares outstanding of Velo3D.
ARK expects 3D printing to revolutionize manufacturing by collapsing the time between design and production, reducing costs, and providing greater design complexity, accuracy and customization. We believe 3D printing can enable digital inventory and distributed manufacturing, adding flexibility to supply chains. On today’s episode, ARK Research Analyst Tasha Keeney and Research Associate Pierce Jamieson interview Benny Buller, founder and CEO of Velo3D, a leader in end-to-end 3D printing space. Benny observed the additive manufacturing (AM) industry with fresh eyes and no prior manufacturing experience. In doing so, he observed a fundamental flaw limiting the speed of AM adoption: Engineers not only had to learn a new manufacturing process (AM), but they also had to learn a new design process (DfAM). He built Velo3D from the ground up, solving for this root challenge, enabling design to inform manufacturing not the other way around.
Key Points in this Episode:
- The origin story of 3D Printing and why Benny started Velo3D.
- What determines a part’s usability with internal supports.
- What software Velo3D uses in the manufacturing process.
- The current repeatability of 3D printing and the overall importance of repeatability.
- The design process for additive manufacturing.
- Design freedom that 3D printing allows when manufacturing parts.
- What is driving growth in the additive manufacturing industry today.
- The future of material science and 3D printing.
- How machine learning and advanced optimization is affecting 3D printing.
- How 3D printing is driving the future of innovation.

Outstanding interview with Mr. Buller. 👍👍🇺🇸 Suggestion for Mr. Buller, do a weekly show and tell the same as Munro Live. That will make you and your company famous as well as educate the industry on what Velo3D offers. It could also elevate your stock price.

awesome interview! Very insightful commentary from Mr. Buller, and interesting to hear some advantages vs. disadvantages from an engineer such as him. Side question: anyone know what headphones TK is wearing here? Really like the silver EDIT: Apple Airpods Max

Thanks for doing this interview. Excellent guest. Fascinating stuff. A bit of criticism with the aim of being helpful: restating what your guest has said is very irritating, especially if done "for your listeners". We tuned in to hear from an industry insider. We expect and want technical details. Multiple times, your restatements seemed to try and cast what was said in a light more favorable to your investment thesis. Don't do this. It harms your credibility. Your audience isn't dumb... We will see this for what it is: confirmation bias. You should be very keen to understand the limitations of current tech, rather than to "contextualize" them for your audience. When interviewing a technical expert, the interviewer must be a true student, and allow the interviewee to be the expert. Mike Rowe did this very well on "Dirty Jobs" and it's the reason the show succeeded. Your audience already agrees with the premise of your investing strategy. But the devil is in the details.

To all print farms and influencers. Are you ready? Im embarking on a 3d print comunity challenge. Name legit print farms. How to show they are legit? A hidden camera for youtube would be entertaining. To sell a 3d print the farm checks licenses and pays royalty to the actual licensed thing owner. Owners payment shows. Easy. It could be a walk in customer or a online order. Failure to license check and pay required royalty is piracy. Pirate farms being closed is a big gain for the honest comunities value jobs and businesses. Now lets see, Name the legit farms? Show the hidden camera footage? Im thinking i might make a vid to sum up results. Whos actually stepping up and name all the companies im sending this to who didnt. Yes that sounds good. I recon 1 week should give the comunity a view on which farms step up and to use.
