On the election campaign trail in Mayo West in 1975 where a by-election has Enda Kenny facing the public vote for the first time.
Enda Kenny had been exposed to the world of politics from an early age. His father Henry was a TD for Mayo West until his death in 1975. Enda was chosen by Fine Gael to stand in the subsequent by-election and at that age of 24 was elected on the first count with 52% of the vote. The other candidates on the ballot were Michael McGreal for Fianna Fáil and independent candidate Basil Morahan.
Enda Kenny was elected to office for the first time as TD for Mayo West on 12 November 1975.
