Good review. In my experience, this game is for people who do not mind about bad dice roll. Bad dice roll can kill your animals easily. Also, even with good dice roll, this game is still quite challenging. Your character is not particularly strong but your characters combined need to accomplish a lot within a single game. In addition, this game is an EXCELLENT game to play with kids to teach about conservation, but gamers themselves will still find it challenging. I like Wingspan better because it seems like Wingspan involves less luck, although you may disagree.

I think the luck depends heavily on the scenario. Tigers are much more luck-based than Otters, since for tigers you have to pick an "at risk" row or column each turn, while with otters you can push them toward the shore and mostly protect them. Totally agree about the conversation starters, though. It certainly worked that way with my 7 year-old :)
