Another great video Chris! One thing i would suggest for people just starting out, is that when you have downloaded the latest Marlin version load it in VS code and compile it "as is" before making any edits or patching in the examples config. That way you know you have VScode, PlatformIO & Marlin autobuild all working before making any changes! It may take a few mins but in my opinion its worth it to know you have the basics working .

Excellent work !!! But I have to add my 2 cents about the marlin. I belive eventually Klipper (or something similar) will replace marlin completely. I have couple of printers including modified ender3 v2 . Last time I had time to update marlin was 2 years ago and the most annoying thing is that almost every single time you want to update Marlin, you have to start almost from the beginning. My ender is full of custom mods and going back through all of them to set up new update is just🤮 . It is very simple to miss something or for example on my DIY design from scratch cnc machine I use btt 2.0 board with custom pinouts for additional equipment. originally it took me a week every day after work to get everythhing to work correctly and to be honest I am not looking forward to go through all my notes and set up yet another Marlin version knowing that I will have to do it all over again in the near future. This is why I am considering switching all my printers to Klipper, initial setup could be painfull and time consuming but it makes more sense in the long run. Lets be honest , I really enjoy playing with all those things but marlin is basically forcing us to do repetitive work every single time there is an update. I honestly would rather spent that time on the new projects and ideas. Don't get me wrong , I am really thankfull for Marlin's developers work and effort but in my opinnion without changing something in the way of getting updates Marlin will eventually die. There is also another factor , please scroll through all the comments in this video and see how many people have issues when doing those updates. basic understading of firmware, hardware, VSCODE , coding , soldering , taking stuff apart, and putting it together is required and that takes time not everybody has. In my opinin most of 3d printer users want's to print , and very small percentage of real geeks ( I include myself here) to spent countless hours getting your stuff to work. Imagine that every two months you have to spent 2 hours getting your pc to work 😆.

I purchased an Ender-3 V2 and a CR Touch but unfortunately, the machine came with a GD chip on its V422 motherboard instead of the standard STM chip and I was unable to find any pre-made firmware that worked correctly with the GD chip/CR Touch combination. In the end I bought a V427 from via Amazon with an STM chip. A was advised to change the motherboard option in the configuration.h file and having done so I watched your video for some insights into the process. You gave me just enough info on other items to change and paced the process at just the right level to make it reassuring to follow. It is now working great and I'm motivated to play with some more options and get into the other UIs and all the options not available on the standard screens. It's exciting :)

I prefer to have LCD_BED_TRAMMING enabled with DWIN_CREALITY_LCD_JYERSUI and had no luck with ADVANCED_PAUSE (just causes E3v2 to freeze). Also been playing with UBL mesh leveling. Seems slick!

Hi Mate, I just got a Ender 3 V2 Neo. Your video is very informative in updating the firmware, but my printer has a CR Touch probe instead of a BL touch one. What changes do I have to do to the config file? Also does the Ender V2 example file work for V2 Neo as well?

I've a question about one thing that I don't understand: why at 4:35 you went for Marlin UI configuration instead of the Creality one, if later inside the firmware is needed to change the display configuration again to use it correctly?

afaik you dont need to set Z_MIN_PROBE_PIN since it should already be defined by the motherboard header :) or am I missing something?

Following along with your video, under Ender-3 V2, I see a couple of BTT SKR boards, and the CrealityV422 board. But what if I have a V4.2.7 board?

Some stuff I've seen the boards don't support linear advance, also saw somebody else talking about saving to the eeprom chip which I've seen they don't have either. Do they have it?

This video was great help in getting my Printer flashed. However I had one issue, flashing the screen. At 17:50 in the read me it described alternate versions of the screen. My screen was a dacai screen. And needed the 'private' folder instead of the dwin folder.

Love the video. I followed step by step, except for the BLtouch, which I do not have. When i flashed the firmware it changed how the screen appeared. It reverted back to the older style screen. I tried all version of the options you mentioned and nothing. Tried to update the screen firmware, nothing, would not update. tried a different screen, nothing. I have even tried to revert it back to the 1.0.2 origional firmware and it will not take it either. Any ideas. thanks RC

Will this work if I have the bigtreetech mini skr E3 v2.0? Or it's a completely different steps in updating the FW? I also have the sd card connected in a raspi (octoprint).

I cannot get any other UI other than the Marlin UI. I've tried Creality UI and ProUI and only the Marlin UI shows on my screen. When updating the screen I have to use the private folder since I have the DACAI screen (not the DWIN screen). I don't know if that is the problem...

BTW could you please look into the GD32F303 RET6 MCU's? seems like a year has passed since they have been around but i see no changes in marlin, so we cant actually flash the stock marlin onto newer Enders. Sure we can still use the stock Crality firmware, but when connected to Octoprint it does loose some functionality.

Really liked this video, I have one question. I have an Ender 3 and if I leave the gcode SD card inserted, the Ender 3 will not start, it has a blue screen and I have to reload the firmware to correct that. I do not think that should be happening as I believe the 4.2.2 board with Creality's firmware should know that there is no bin file on the SD card. Creality sent me a new board thinking the board was defective, but the same thing occurs on the new board, even though it had a newer version of the firmware. If I upgrade to Marlin instead of using Creality's firmware, should this problem be resolved? Just wondering if others are experiencing this problem.

for some reason I cannot get the LCD firmware flash to work ive formatted the SD, and all that stuff, but still no luck.

Trying to flash the LCD screen, but now it refuses to do anything other than display the Creality logo. I've never seen any coloured screens with any LCD firmware I've tried, and I'm using a 8gb FAT32 sd with 4k units. Trying to install/upgrade Marlin because I got the CR Touch and I was recommended to build Marlin 2.1.2 myself, if that makes any difference.

I tried doing the update for my display screen and it didnt change color at all it just went black like i can see its turning on but nothing else comes up. It is an ender 3 V2 with a motherboard 4.2.2 and just the simple turn knob. Any help on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

I've been messing with trying to update the firmware for a few days, but every time I hit build it tells me either one or both of the config files are outaded, or the marlin firmare is. Have you come across this for the V2 using the 2.1.1 firmware and the 2.1 config V422? I've also tried using the 2.1.x firmware; that's when I got the outdated firmware message. I was hoping to update my firmware in order to install my CRTouch. It won't home after installing it, even manually, after turning it on and hitting anything to do with the z-stop to get a number it rams itself into the frame (doesn't matter either way) and I have to hit the kill switch.

ive done everything as stated in the video but for the life of me the lcd will not flash any firmware, ive tried multiple other guides but im starting think the card reader on the lcd is toast! is there way way to trouble shoot this without buying a new screen? off the backend of Christmas and new years so on the broker side of things of things right now

Good evening Chris. Thank you for all the videos. I installed a Sprite Pro on my Ender 3 V2. When I run the leveling program (Bilinear) it does the first 2 points fine but seems to travel to far right in the X and the extruder carriage seems to hit the bracket that holds the wheels for the Z extrusion. After it hits the bracket it probes the 3rd point then does the other 6 spots just fine. Is there a way to limit the travel on the 3rd point that won't affect the print dimensions? Or possibly slow the travel to the 3rd point so it doesn't hit? Thank you for any help

I just updated to Marlin 2.1 following your tutorial (from stock ender3v2 firmware) and now my hot-end heats up extremely slowly before it reaches target temp. It takes like 5-10 minutes to reach 210 C. Any advice on what I might have done wrong?

Hi, Followed step by step and went to build the file and I'm getting an error message downgrade or upgrade Marlin Configuration.h. I also tried it with the bugfix file. The bugfix file has no errors when the file is built but when I try it in the Ender machine it does nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks @Chris, just finished updating to Marlin 2.1.1 on my Ender-3 V2 ( from stock version 1.0.4 ) . I had to do a few changes in the procedure. First , I had build the the MarlinUI in the first run and then rebuilt it for CrealityUI. The printer updated the firmware in the first run, but couldn't in the second run. As a fix I had to remove ''firmware" suffix from the .bin file name. I guess though "Auto Build Marlin" uses date-time in filename to differentiate builds, the board does not account the date-time portion from the file name. I am not sure if it just reads fixed number of characters in the filename. Second, for the LCD firmware update, I also had to copy ''"private" folder along with "DWIN_set" from the configuration examples. After which the LCD displayed a progress screen, writing each of the .jpeg files from the "private" folder. There was no blue / orange screen. It just updated and started the UI.

Do you know if there are any config file differences needed for a 427 board vs. the 422?

I've learned a ton from watching this video and tinkering around. Thanks for the great content. But I'm getting compiling errors when I enable the DWIN_LCD_PROUI. Did you have to make any other changes before it would compile for you? This is around 20 minutes in your vid. I've tried the most recent firmware 2.1.2.1 as well as the on you're using in the video 2.1 but they are both throwing errors for me at this step.

As i get linear advance dont work with the stepper drivers (2208) ender v2 uses but need at least the 2209 ones to work or has this somehow been fixed in software so u can use it also with 2208 drivers?

Hi Chris, amazing video and thought I had solved my problem following all your steps... but unfortuanetly I am still getting this error trying to update firmware for BLtouch "Please enable only one probe option: Probe_manually, sensorless..." etc have 1) Uncommented #define use_probe_for_z_homing 2) commented out define Z_min_probe_uses_z_min_endsytop_pin 3) uncommented define BLTOUCH ... and all the other probes are commented out but it still wont compile. I have connected BL touch to the z stop pins.. any help would be amazing!

The Auto Build has been building for a while with nothing changing. The yellow/black bar is moving but the terminal is only showing folder path and “platformio run”

A really good video other than a fatal flaw with the flashing of the firmware to the screen. They updated it now and you should just ignore this dingus and copy all of the files from the LCD files into the sd card. There are now different types of lcd screen pcb.

If you have an Ender 3 S1, do you use the LCD files from the Ender 3 V2 examples config? The S1 example does not contain any files in the LCD files folder, it only has a redme txt file in there. EDIT: I figured it out. I searched everywhere but could not find anything, so I just tried a few things till it worked. I had to copy ALL the Ender 3 V2 Files: DWIN_SET, private, and the 拷贝private到SD卡根目录.txt to the SD and then it updated a ton of image files and other stuff. My screen was blue with red text and a red status bar so i could see the progress and all the files being uploaded.

Another baffling video about compiling the Marlin firmware f. I am keen to upgrade my FW and have to soon as I have bought a BL touch, but need someone to explain it to me like a 5-year-old I suspect. There is one channel that has a video about this saying that you need to remove the heatsink from one of the MB chips for some reason. Is there a particular STM chip that is used in the 4.2.2 boards? Is that information needed as Marlin autocompiler seems to ask for it? Also, I have apparently compiled but the output seems to be a hex and elf file, no mention of a bin file: is one dropped in a folder somewhere or is the prcoess completely wrong that I am doing?

VSCode shows configuration.h 9+ problems "#if ENABLED" ENABLED has red squiggly line "function call is not allowed in a constant expressionC/C++(59)" But Marlin compiles ok configuration.h & configuration_adv.h are from the examples without any modifications. I have tried this on two computers Win10 & Win11 Marlin 2.1.2 VSCode 1.75.0
