Lily flowers. Blight. Pact Symbols. Purification. What do all of these share in common? Well...it's complicated. In this theory video I break down some new revelations that alter the very foundation of these topics and represent a big shift in our understanding of the rich lore of Ender Lilies.
Let's dive in!

I loved this theory, especially how you connected mycorrhizae with the relationship between blight and lilies, and consequently priestesses. There's a step that I can't 100% follow, because the fungi in mycorrhizae aren't the same organism as the plants, as in they don't share their DNA, so even if the priestesses were grown from the blight, they wouldn't necessarily have the same DNA as the lilies. Regardless, I can see the narrative logic behind this (you could count the plant and its symbiotic fungi as one in terms of entities), and I frankly like the theory too much to not accept it because of this step.

Absolutely. IRL mycorrhizae doesn't work like this, the organisms do remain separate. My reasoning here was that if Blight can affect a human's actual soul, maybe affecting a plant's "soul"/DNA isn't out of the question either.

@@indiexplorergames I understand the reasoning behind that step now, thank you for clarifying.

Oh boy, he’s back! I’m loving the continuing trend of combining scientific concepts with the otherwise fantastical theory-crafting of Ender Lilies; it appeals to my biology-obsessed mind. I also really like how this revised theory ties many of your previous ones together, it lets me better appreciate the lore of the game.

While I like your understanding of things I would like to point that when fretia says everyone, she likely refers to all lilyes, whose presence can be seen during the second part of the blighted lord fight, floating and praying for their mother fretia. Also while it is a mechanic in the game, there is meaning to the fact that finding the lilyes corpses makes your prayer stronger. I would like to hear your thoughts about this topic, my good man.

If I remember correctly, the prayer is a brief reconnection to the eternal realm tin order to draw energy and restore the amulet's defensive power. Since the other lilies don't have a pact, they are not able to get in contact with neither the spiritual realm nor the eternal realm, so in my opinion, that should not be the reason why your prayer becomes stronger. But then, why it does? You are 1 of 9 lilies, maybe it's about purifying and "absorbing" another piece of Fretia that makes your powers stronger (prayers and purifications I suppose) ?

Or when Fretia said everyone, she literally meant everyone, as in the spirits along with the clones. Whatever it is, it's till very touching :')

A bit late to the party, but: If I remember correctly, purifying the priestesses isn't required in any way to reach the end goal. So this quote wouldn't make much sense if you missed at least one (or possibly all). And while not all bosses are required either (as there are plenty of optional ones), there is a clear differeence between both cases: She knows how many clones there are and wouldn't make such a generalization if one were missing. But in the case of regular blighted souls, a generalization would be acceptable, even if lily did miss out some people. In fact, it would be very strrange for lily having purified (and brought along) EVERY blighted soul. Nor would Fretia be able to identify if truly every soul was purified.

interesting theory, yes blight and the priestess do seem to be in a codependance bond when one can't live with the other the ancients being so advanced is so sad taking into account they were killed when they could give interesting help to Land's End alchemy or something fretia's clones do not have the mark and so is branded into their forehead is something so horrible to think of when realized they were children even tho they were clones and had a specific role , that makes the lily (the one we play) more important since she was into sleep slumber and initially believed to be silva's lily. does that mean they knew lilies were dying and tried to keep some alive by making them sleep,, mh

Really interesting interpretation of the lore. I love this game so much I wish I could erase my memory of it so I could play it for the first time again.

Huh, kinda surprised you didn't think of Mayan culture when you first played this game, because I am pretty sure they had this whole myth about how there was a giant flesh monster under the lands and they regularly made sacrifices to the monster in order to keep it from eating everything. look up Cipactli if you want to. Not the exact same thing but the whole theme of foreigners conquering the lands and killing the people already there + the flesh monster connection reminded me of them when I heard about it.

There's one problem with this theory: if Ferin only appears for the first Priestess and for our Lily, how does the Second and Third Priestess performed purification? It couldn't be that they made a pact with anyone else, because we don't know about any other survivors among the Ancients. Other than that, I think that your point about the marks and how the Lilys weren't able to purificate is spot on.

thanks for Theory ! question out of topic : what is "Ender Lilies" means ? i mean ... who is "ending" them ? Lily herself ? and the lilies .. the red ones ?
@indiexplorergames
@indiexplorergames Жыл бұрын
My interpretation is that "Ender Lilies" refers to the 9 *Lily* clones, whose entire purpose for being created was to put an *End* to the Blight. And in the end, the last Lily is able to achieve exactly that, with the assistance of the other 8 clone's spirits in the final phase against the Blighted Lord.

@@indiexplorergames Do you have any theory about why the Blighted Lord becomes stronger after the 8 lilies spirits appear? Also, why appear and make their mother more affected by the blight (hence stronger) ?

So....to sum the ENTIRETY of it up, humanity attempted to mess with nature with foolish hopes that they could control their abomination of nature and, of course, it goes horribly wrong. It backfired on them spectacularly and with their own sinful nature too boot.

I think you might be basing your theory a little too much on the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Equating the Deathless Pact to the Nahel Bond, different realms and such. It still fits but you might be

I disagree to an extent with some of your theories on this, but mostly because I disagree with the core assumption you have to make for it. Unfortunately, I can't properly articulate my thoughts fully on the matter since I'm not particularly good at remembering details off the cuff. In particular, though, I can clarify I disagree with the idea the pact grants the ability to purify. This has implications that have far too many holes in it lore-wise. I have...a lot of feelings on the theorizing you've done regarding the themes of sin (for one, Stagnant Blight is directly noted to relate to sorrow and pokes a hole in the sin theory to an extent), but again can't fully articulate my thoughts off the cuff.
