How the King of Cocaland Helps Former Coca Farmers Promoting Alternative Crops | Investigative Documentary from 2016
Jochen Weise is the typical businessman. He knows South America inside out and knows how to interact with its natives. For 30 years he has been operative in South America, however, not as a businessman, rather as an employee of the United Nation. Next to Columbia, Peru is one the largest sources of cocaine production in the world and Jochen’s main task is to impede the production of cocaine. Throughout his time with the UN, Jochen has managed to persuade 25, 000 farmers to refrain from cultivating illegal coca plants and this was accomplish with the generosity of the UN. Driven by the need to stop drug production, the United Nation office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) allowed Jochen a budget of almost $100 million, a significant portion of which came from German taxpayers. The farmers, who refrain from cultivating the coca plants, receive financial support by the newly-founded UN cooperation. These farmers are granted loans and seeding materials to sow alternative crops such as cocoa, coffee and palm oil and from this venture born the “alternative development project”. However, despite these endeavours, many coca farms remain prosperous. Why is that so? Is the UN but a cover for illegal drug production or are there still coca farmers who work independently?
This documentary follows the farmers accused of working with the drug mafia and the UN personnel accused of enriching themselves in the name of goodwill. In a dramatic turn of events, the film will reveal our research, which began on the plains of Peru and has evolved into an internal investigation within the UN.

Jochen is definitely a bit crooked. He pleases the UN by rolling out their mandate and then collects profits through his wife by benefiting from a UN created/subsidised industry. The problem with this is 1) it's subsidised by his employer 2) the farmer's are being paid very low wages while private investors get massive returns. In summary, he's profiting off subsidies and the sweat of the farmers.

The people of Peru and places like Bolivia should be allowed to export their cultural crops such as coca to the world. The leaf itself is safe; far safer than alcohol. Imagine telling the Scots they could not sell whiskey, or telling the French they could not sell wine, or the Germans they could not sell beer, all of which are demonstrably much more dangerous/harmful than coca leaf. Is it not cultural genocide preventing indigenous cultures growing and exporting their crops like coca? Is it not banned because allowing them to do that represents the competition? The raw leaf needs no manufacturing or factories. You pick it, dry it, pack it. Great for many things, both medicinally, recreationally or just as a nice tea. If they were allowed to export coca leaf, this would employ huge numbers of people and lift them out of abject poverty. Coca could be as big as, or bigger than, tea and coffee. Imagine that. In this context, big pharma are pulling the strings. While there is no question that coca leaf, thus exported legally would find its way into the hands of those who wish to further process it into cocaine, over night that entire cartel thing would be broken; decentralized. Why would not the UN want that? Why would they not wish to foster peace? Uphold indigenous rights? Human rights? Why would there be no moves to legalize coca leaf? Why are there no discussions about this? Look what happened to Evo Morales.

Is this in Africa? It sounds very familiar. And that's why we in Africa find it hard to listen to righteousness from the West.

The most pathetic liar, his wife bought the stock, right. When he said I have nothing, but a pitance, and my wife makes from her shares she bought. I don't understand people who know they are intentionally forcing people into poverty live with themselves. God bless.

Sad... At this point, it seems inconsequential as to the method used, or the scheme by which - so long as human greed is placed above human morality, the result will remain the same.

Why should UN encroach by obliterating Peruvian culture? Let them just do what they do best... This is what happened when the European invaded Africa under the pretext of spreading Christianity.
