You HONESTLY consider these headphones to be superior to the Abyss range? Incidentally, if I was to buy a pair of these, I wouldn't be able to order the spare pads you recommended. Therefore, which pads would you suggest that are VEGAN?

@@SpiritualPsychotherapyServices the abyss are definitely still more detailed. On the ZMF site is says they have vegan options as suede instead of leather. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that applies to the be2 suede perforated pads.

Fantastic video, one of the best I've seen. Great eye candy in the shots, lighting, mix. I like how you incorporated the frequency response graphs and then balanced all that with a human reaction. Nice comparison to the HD6XX.

Had the chance to try these out today and GOD I loved them! Really lush and rich mids, super easy on the ears, worked really well with whatever I threw at them! Was shocked to see the frequency response after having tried them haha. I agree with the "endgame for people who like 6XX" take, super relaxing both in terms of sound and comfort. Hopefully one day I'll be able to own a pair!

Love your informative videos, I currently own a few different headphones but really can't fault the Sundara at it's current price, Your review of the Fiio K9 got me ready to buy one, but they have switched tow a paqir of ESS DAC chips, It would be really good if you could compare the new version to the one you really liked, as a Sundara user I was wondering if the ESS DAC chpis may spoil that synergy. Thanks.

The suede headband and pad are more cushy than the stock lambskin and for many, eliminate the need for a pilot pad.

I know it's an apples to oranges comparison (open back vs closed back), but how do you think the Atrium compares to something like the Focal Stellia in terms of detail since both are dynamic?

I’m a pad novice. Is there a particular pilot pad that you recommend for the Atrium? Also, do you have an ETA for the Caldera review? I’d really like to know how they compare while the Redheart limited editions are available in both the Atrium and Caldera.

I understand and very much agree with the 6xx comparison. I had a nice honeymoon period with the Atrium but eventually it was too smooth (not enough details?) for my tastes and I found I keep reaching back to the Susvara and sold the ZMF. I'm sure that for many this will be end game and they won't miss a thing. It's a great choice and was a fantastic experience for me as my first ZMF. Since then got a VC as well that might be staying, different tuning and closed back make it more reasonable to compliment my collection but time will tell. Thanks for the review!

Similar situation here. I've a susvara and a VC, Both sound holographic but both present different sounds the VC is dynamic, fast, engaging and punchy, and the susvara is ethereal an almost Omni present sound. The atrium I tried at canjam Singapore was a pleasant listen, great soundstage size, great timbre just like the VC. But the atrium lacks in technicalities in my opinion, the VC although it's closed it's better in detail, speed and imaging.

Few problems: 1) too darn spendy 2) very little of my fav music is mastered beyond my HD650s ability to handle 3) my wife would kill me if I splurged on this 4) I'd rather not wear a coffee table on my head Still, I'd sure like to give them a little test drive!

Hey Man! Your videos are just great! You inspired me so much of getting new different type of headphones. Now i have to decide but would like to hear your advice: - Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition (600 Ohm) - Sennheiser HD560S - Hifiman HE400se - AKG 701/702 I want to run them with AMP --> Sound BlasterX G6 - what you think about that? Im from EUROPE so sadly the 6XX etc. is not available / no choice for me.... I want to use the setup on PC for gaming and listening to music. Highly enjoying crystal clear music but want some decent/nice bass. Which of those you would recommend for my use? Regards, Benny

are you even sure that soundblaster can handle 600ohm? maybe try dt770 250 ohm its clear sound with good bass, not open back but whatever

I haven't tried the be2 pads. I have the stock and the auteur perf lambskin. I found the auteur pads to add more depth out in front of you, Add more bass rumble, and have more musicality to them vs stock. I'm a staging junkie. I like the out of head experience. Do the be2 pads do that?

Going back to this video to just quickly check sth, i've noticed that up until now there was no video on the McIntosh Tube amp nor the Feliks that they've tried in Munich. Well but i guess that's understandable given how much has changed for DMS during the last months. He must be really busy. Still wonder if we'll see it tho

I'm actually surprised I didn't hear "timbre" anywhere in this review, because the Atrium are kings of that category, IMO. Biocellulose and Ribbons tend to be considered best for timbre, AFAIK.

That will depend on your preferences. I have a HE1000se and not a Susvara, but I'd like to think my situation still applies. I traded my VC for an Atrium to give it a shot. The Atrium strays the furthest from the HE1000se sound, so I ultimately chose to stick with it as my HE1000se companion as my goal was to have 2 drastically different but equally enjoyable headphones. If you want to contrast the Susvara sound as much as possible, grab the Atrium. If you want a contrasting headphone but are worried about missing out on a bit of detail and speed if those are essential for you, then grab a Vérité. You can't really go wrong with either.

I'm amused by the fact that every reviewer who has showered this headphone with praise, from Tyler'sEclectic to Zeos to William from The HEADPHONE Experience to now DMS, has called this one of the greatest ever but only with their specific favorite pad, and each and every one of them picked a totally different "this is the ONE and only" pad.

Just in general, our ears are shaped more uniquely than our fingerprints, and the folds and diameters and size, etc… these all alter sound vs a microphone out in a free field, THEREFORE our ears perform a personal EQ change to everything we hear. Since we hear differently, it’s only natural we might prefer different pads, and that’s even before you account for personal preference in sound and comfort. So, it’s valid :)

DMS, What do you recommend for a closed back version of the sennheiser hd 600 with the same sound signature? I daily drive the 1997 version hd 600 and for iems, I use the fiio fa1.

@@OledBurnInKing me personally I would say yes the ndh20 does provide the desired vocal intimacy. Keep in mind that Neumann is owned by Sennheiser, and they tuned the ndh20 based on the hd650 if I remember correctly, but to me they sound closer to the hd600.

@dms I’m a 1266 phi tc owner. Do you think the atrium or VC make a better compliment to phi tc owners ? Looking for something mids forward smooth warm yet still technical. Something that I can pair with tubes and that will do everything well that the phi tc struggles with. Also looking at used Utopia, lcd4, or final d8k pro. Raal new circumsural or also in the mix.

In my opinion and I've tried nearly all headphones at canjam Singapore, plus having a big collection and a susvara. I would confidently say the VC is vastly superior especially in technicalities speed detail and imaging. The atrium has a very nice soundstage, a soft inoffensive sound. I preferred the VC more cause although it's closed still it can provide all the details and sound big and open at the same time, it's insane. As an advice when ever you get a zmf headphone always look for the pads that provide the largest opening for your ears, interestingly enough that makes it sound holographic and big.

@@aceofspades6667 the VC is a great complement to the susvara. The VC sound dynamic, powerful, fast and engaging, it's not a susvara. The susvara is more ethereal which some people call polite, but it's ethereal and tries to project sounds around you. The VC has that holographic capability but it's way more powerful and dynamic. The atrium has a big soundstage it's as big as the susvara, but it's way less detailed. And since the atrium isn't as detailed and fast as the VC, the atrium's shortcomings can become a little annoying. All in all the the VC isn't a susvara but it's a fantastic complementary sound.

@@aceofspades6667 I own the VC and think from what you have described it would be better for what you want. It's an excellent headphone. It sounds really good on solid state but sounds excellent on tubes. Pads really do make some noticeable changes in the presentation.

Verite Closed with Auteure sheepskin or Eikon pads is a little better imo. The Auteur makes it resolve and just as detailed as the Atrium

My biggest fault, after burn in, was it was very soft and undefined in the leading edge. If a pad/mesh/tube swap gets me there then yeah, they are close to everything i want.

Only difference between my headphones and the very best is money.....rather a 6xx and a full stomach and food for my family....but thank you for your opinions. It's not like someone like me could ever afford to own or review such a piece of art

6xx is fantastic! One of the most pleasant sound signatures if you like it. I've heard more "detailed" and "clear" headphones but not all details make the music better and they are clearer than people give them credit for, again if it sounds good to you. If you buy them and you like them there's no need for fomo. The cost of "better" hurts more than it actually improves the sound imo.

Pilot strap makes a huge difference in comfort

I'm not usually a measurment guy, but after purchasing a Verite Open and really hating it - those measurements of the Atrium look worrying. I could only describe the Verite Open as very W shaped and the FR supports that. The Atrium looks to be the same.

The dips at 3-4k for the Atrium and HD6XX aren't as much of a characteristic of the rig as you'd hope. In my experience, the HD6XX starts to roll-off at 3k. It loses its accuracy and linearity beyond that range, objectively speaking. This is coming from GRAS 43AG measurements compensated to my own neutral target. I spoke on this as part of my review on LTT Forum, entitled "Vintage for a premium: The HD6XX review".

I ordered ZMF Atticus yesterday. First high quality headphones ever. I have been using Sony XM3s for the last 3 years. I'm so excited! I never would have known about them until finding your channel.

Xm3 are bass heavy, and so does the atticus being the warmest/bassiest in the zmf line but with high quality unlike the sonys. I think you’d definetally like this one, lemme know how it goes!

@@nerfkevin9111 That is why I went with the Atticus. I mainly listen to artists like Bring me the horizon and Rise Against. On my XM3s I have the bass pushed. I do not know if I need an amp or anything. If I bought one, I would get like a FiiO m11. Any suggestions with that? This is my first dip into the audiophile game, funny enough I bought like an end game headphone for some people. I listen to music during my entire 12 hour shift at work plus some at home, that is why I would go with a DAP like the FiiO, So I can do mobile playing at work then USB amp/dac setup while at home.

@@SpencerReidBuchanan haha nice music taste! I listen to prog metal like periphery and metalcore as well! Bass is definitely a key factor cuz you want to feel that drum kicks. If anything, im selling my Cayin n6ii for a great price if you’re interested, theyll drive anything you want whiles having a 13h battery life for my use. But which fiio are you refering to? The m11 original, pro or the plus?

@@nerfkevin9111 I did not have an exact one I was looking at. I mean, originally I was thinking M17 but I do not need one that big. I will probably just watch a review and figure out which m11 to go with from there. Price is pretty important as I am a college kid and was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I do not know if my phone will drive such big headphones. I am also weird and will totally go into a coffee shop with giant ZMF headphones on and love the looks.

And yes for a 300 ohn headphone you want a dap with a more beasty amp to get the most out of youe headphones, a phone will get you volume but wont give you the dynamics and instrument separation like a dedicated source!

Hard line to walk ya know? Diana is more detail and has that planar bass, but I'm sure it's obvious how much I love Atrium too. They're definitely polar opposite headphones.

@@DMS3TV I think you handle it well. Being able to give a glowing review to another brand says a lot about your integrity. Price wise Abyss models are definitely a jump which also makes them not a great comparison. If they made an under $3k headphone such direct comparisons would make more sense.
