Even with all of the "flaws", that's still a very nicely restored El Camino. One thing that I've always wondered about the 1970 Chevelle/Malibu line is why did GM use 2 different front bumpers and 2 different colors for the parking light/turn signal lenses? Lower model Chevelles and Malibus had rectangular lenses but, they were "white" while SS models had amber lenses. El Caminos and (possibly but I'm not sure) station wagons had round lenses but, I'm not sure if the colors varied between "white" and amber on them. Any ideas on the reasoning behind this Patrick?
@MrChevelle8311 ай бұрын
good question!! the big 3 all did quirky stuff like this!

my 70 malibu has square amber lenses. ive owned it for 20yrs and never paid attention to the difference from car to elco. lol.
@nathanlapp224411 ай бұрын
Perhaps it was due to the fact that El Camino/wagon fenders are different than coupe/ sedan fenders. The latter is flared where the former is not. I think the Elco bumper is the same as the 70 Monte Carlo bumper, but I could be mistaken.

Beautiful car. As the new owner corrects some of the details, they can add the engine lift brackets to the list. The rear rectangular bracket should be flat and should be mounted to the rear of the passenger head, not the intake. The front bracket on the car is a later style item with the Omega stamp. The original will have more rounded corners and will have the part number 3969829 stamped on it.
@patrickglennnicholsmusclec167411 ай бұрын
Yessir these are some simple elementary items that are a easy fix. I wasn’t hired to provide assembly line correct component consultation. I was hired to inspect for authenticity and my public endorsement pre purchase to add provenance to the buyer’s investment. I do believe the new owner will be hiring me as well to guide him with correction of incorrect items.
@natew888211 ай бұрын
@@patrickglennnicholsmusclec1674 You might save time and start with the re-stamped block. Pull the passenger cylinder head to do a complete inspection of the deck surface. Without any documentation or original paperwork the only thing this car has as proof of being an original engine is that passenger side deck surface. If in fact it is the born with block then there should have been many photographs taken during the engine rebuilding process. For an LS6 454 to have survived this long is nearly a miracle as many know. What is the date code of the block? What is the date code of the cylinder heads in comparison to the block? What is the date code on the distributor? In my opinion from what I have seen this car is so pieced together there's no way it's legitimate. If this cars original parts weren't acceptable for the restoration and needed to be replaced with reproduction, then where are the original parts?

So many el caminos were used as fast trucks and used hard back in the days. Not surviving long. Even big blocks. Chevy had done a great job with its styling using the Chevelle front clips and windshield frames. Then in the 80s onwards they were used as drag cars and got chopped up beyond people wanting to restore. This ultra rare LS6 Camino is super rare to find. Those fender liners are a fortune if original.

He bought it new, dated and married his wife in it, then it became an unwashed, low maintenance, daily driver. They had that car through 2 and almost the 3rd kid before the poor car wouldn't go (250,000+) no more, at least at their price range. It was sold off and replaced with a soccer mom thingy, The Chevelle was bittersweet, the patina in all the right places but yet it was a car that could also be brought bad to its original glory.

Deck surface looks sanded. Should be broached. IMO too many replacement parts to be real. I'd definitely want to see every original part that was replaced. My guess is that ain't gonna happen. Amateur restoration with way too much wrong. This car can be easily built from scratch. Without a build sheet or original buyer docs, not believable. I'd have to do a closer in person inspection of the block surface under the passenger side cylinder head before handing over any money.
