For those of you complaining about how long it takes, and how an impact works "so much faster," I'll let you know from my experience. We take out 48mm bolts on our presses that were put in with about 800 ft-Lbs of torque. When we take them out, we use a 1-1/2" impact, and have to hit it for quite some time before we get them loose. Some of them won't break loose. So, we use a Torque multiplier for 4500 ft-Lbs of torque to break them free. Yes, it's heavy. Yes, it's quite slow to loosen them. But, when the biggest impact you can get won't do the job, you need the RIGHT tool. It's either that, or an 8-ft long breaker bar. Which one is more useful?
@jamesj66054 жыл бұрын
They make impact wrench that go all the way up to 5k ft pounds... close to 3k to buy but if your in the line of work that requires taking off lugs with that much torque would be a good investment...

Energy saving because they compare it to manually do it with all that long steel pipe. When you don't have access to phone network to call for service truck or there is no service truck in the area. And its called torque multiplier. Low input torque from human, multiply(arrangement of planetary gear set in it) and output to a higher torque to lock or unlock.

Torque amplifier - I have one of these but it uses a bar to stop against ground or objects..you attach ratchet to back. That thing is so great on stubborn nuts or bolts. I recently used it to help crush a crush sleeve in a pinion install while working under a truck . Worked great since it require around 200 to 300ft lbs start smashing the crush sleeve. Thank goodness we have it.

Ha! We made one of these in high school out of a chain operated hoist mechanism! Just welded a 3/4 square drive to the small sprocket mount point and welded a 1" 3/4 drive socket to the large sproket mount point. Ditch the chains and drill through front of case for access to socket drive. We needed it for breaking loose our tractor wheel hub bolts. I guess nessecity is the mother of invention after all!

Could be useful if you had a light duty impact to go with it. Even with a 1/4” hex drive you’d be able to break the lugs with then follow up without it. A Milwaukee cordless with torque like that costs $480 or more in Canada.

DTR RTD In turn saving energy! By reducing the input force needed, it saves energy. Input force is energy.
@chuckfischer72025 жыл бұрын
I agree with you except for these points. With a man turning the crank, there is just a little energy loss due to friction in the gears. With an impact wrench, there is friction in the gun, energy loss in fittings, hoses, plumbing. More lost in the heat generated by the compressor motor, friction in the pump, it's heat loss. Belt slippage. Consider also, a 50 lb tool in your truck vs bringing 500 lbs of gear on another truck to where it's needed. When you figure all that in, it probably does save some energy. The man is burning calories, the machinery is burning kilowatts.

Newton once said - Energy can neither be created or destroyed, it changes from one form to another. Energy - force multiplied by distance. So greater the force, lesser the distance and hence time taken to loosen the nut, and vice versa.
