NOT to say that the women who just graduated and received a degree just like every man are NOT important or useful as WOMEN because they should be home having and raising babies NOT working! That is NOT what the Catholic church says! He disrespected EVERY woman in that graduating class! Clearly HE and his views are NOT at all appropriate for a college graduating class of both men and women who plan to use their degrees! He can stay at home while his wife does everything for him and have his beliefs. There are MANY other Catholics that would never have given such a disrespectful and out of touch speech like that! ALL the Catholic women I know WORK and have to to support their families. Also, not every Catholic woman can or wants to have kids! Those women didn't work just as hard as the men to get a degree just to not use it! SMH.

@@SupernaturalLove100 I don't disagree. I thought he could have lifted instead of disparaged. I disagree with things he said whole-heartedly, but he has a right to say and believe them. He's not shooting people for their sneakers, or denying anyone their rights, just expressing his religious beliefs to others in his religion. If I were to attack him, I would be going against everything I believe about the US, and our freedoms.

Ironically, Proverbs 13:13 is actually, "Whoever despises the word must pay for it, but whoever reveres the command will be rewarded." You're quoting Proverbs 13:3, "Those who guard their mouths preserve themselves; those who open wide their lips bring ruin." Butker has hardly brought ruin on himself. The NFL is standing by him, his teammates are standing by him, the nuns who stood against him have been rebuked by the Church and made to stand down, while the stupid sow discord by their insolence and the foolish parade folly. You should consider Butker's advice and, when considering those against him, meditate on Proverbs 12:6 "The words of the wicked are a deadly ambush, but the speech of the upright saves them," Proverbs 12:14 "The way of fools is right in their own eyes, but those who listen to advice are the wise," and Proverb 12:16 "Fools immediately show their anger, but the shrewd conceal contempt."

Yes, it was completely tone deaf and out of touch for a graduation speech. Does he think all the women in that class just got degrees in home economics?! Or just got a degree for the fun of it and have no plans to use that degree because they should be at home popping out babies, raising them and taking care of the home. What decade does this idot live in?! Even the women who want to do that can't afford to in this economy when MOST families need two incomes to live decently. SMH.

Unless you are one of the Catholic graduating students from that college, he was not speaking to you. He addressed them with the conviction of his faith, and nothing he said was outside the Catholic faith and its teachings.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic and never heard the priests in my parish or my teachers say anything along the lines of what he said about women. I went to a Catholic school that was mostly girls and we were educated to have careers. He's free to say whatever he wants but it doesn't represent all Catholics.

Building a family and having a career are not mutually exclusive and Butker never said they were. You are reading your own anxieties and fears into his statements, he simply did not say any of what you are implying.

That implies that they will get promotions and titles, which in turn implies they will have careers. So when exactly did he say women should not have careers? Was it when he said his wife gave up on her career to devote herself fully to being a homemaker, and didn't regret it? That does not suggest women should not have careers, only that careers are not the only means to a satisfying life. Considering that the majority of that audience is upper class conservative Catholic women who are marrying upper class conservative Catholic men who likely can afford to support a family on one income, and that many of those women are planning to focus on their family over their career, the message he delivered -- that career is not the *only* way to happiness -- is uplifting and encouraging. Telling them that they must have a career to be happy would have been deeply discouraging to that audience of women. That's why they gave him a standing ovation.

The nuns have since removed their statement from their website at the request of the diocese because they were out of line with Catholic teachings. Also, the Benedictine Sisters founded the school in the 1800s, long before any of the current sisters were born, and long before the radical feminist ideology those nuns have embraced and confused with Catholic teaching. The nuns who founded the college are all long dead and would have held opinions that would scandalize modern feminists.

Those who dont agree are not standing with God huh? So the only way to stand right with God is to treat women like they are second class citizens right?
