We pit probably the two most popular modern classics with years of heritage between them against each other to find the best. obviously in my slightly humorous totally unscientific way.#royalenfield #interceptor650 #triumphbikes #bonneville

Clunky gear change on the Interceptor? That does surprise me ! I've ridden a dozen different ones and they've all been buttery smooth .....including my own !

I've only ridden one, the one I own, and it's so smooth it's sometimes hard to know if it has shifted until you let out the clutch. Odd indeed.

Had a test ride last week on a brand new Interceptor with only a few miles on the clock. The gear changes were very smooth for such a new bike.

i think jamies experience is mainly with the bonny, so his experience with the Enfield would be coloured by a sample of one. i totally agree the interceptor gearbox is very good, as are all my Enfield boxes. but its fair to say the bonny really is slick. i was actually surprised at how more refined the liquid cooled bonny was than my air cooled ones. regardless of that, i love my interceptor. top bike.

@theartisanrider472 I rode both bikes and I'm happy with my choice , I thought the handling on the Interceptor was a little better probably down to the Harris design frame . The suspension got overwhelmed when you pushed it , had no confidence in the tyres , didn't like some of the grey powder coating , indicators were hideous but 2 main factors made me buy it ....1. It had more scope for me to personalise it ( in my eyes ) as the Triumph was undeniably more "finished" 2. I didn't want a 900cc bike ! It was never about money as I had the means to buy both , and I've spent a few quid on it and I'm still nowhere near the price of the T100 at the time , depreciation meant bugger all because it isn't going anywhere & I still get immense pleasure riding it and sitting in the garage looking at it with a cuppa ! Must put it on the weighbridge at work sometime , I'm sure it'll be under 200kg ! 🤔

11:56 i never took mine back to Triumph dealer - once was enough - didn’t care about me, charged me a lot and let me ride home before telling me (a week later by email!) that my breaks were down to minus 15% AND THEN i got the pads double checked by non-triumph and (as i thought) the pads have thousands of miles left on them. they also told me on the phone when i made the appointment that i couldn’t test ride a bike while i was there or as they put it ‘we don’t let people just go out on jollies’. i was very embarrassed. i have a 2 year old Bobber am a 50 year old man taking it to Triumph for service. i AM YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE! treated like an inconvenience. no one was around. didn’t try to talk to me about bikes in the shop i was looking at. didn’t point out the sale they were having on clothes. didn’t call me when bike was completed. so i won’t be buying a bike from them either.

Very very odd. The dealership here in Stockholm is great and super helpful. This morning in fact, I had the MOT for my bike and right away. The guy testing saw that my half light was broken which was a fail. He tested everything else and everything was OK but I called immediately the Triumph garage and they said just bring it by and they fitted me in and fixed it and I managed to get back to the MOT guy before lunch and he passed the bike.

While they argue between these two classics, I saw the light and sold my interceptor and bought the ultimate modern classic for this 60 year old who has great memories of the big fours of the 70's. Introducing my 2016 CB1100EX. Its a dream.

The Triumph is lovely but i reckon the Enfield enticed more people back onto two wheels. Inexpensive new price on the Enfield means bikes only a couple of years old and with negligible miles for really sensible prices. That's a big draw no matter what else is available on the second hand market.

Nice common man’s comparison. I’m old enough to to remember Bike magazine doing a similar comparison between the real Bonneville and the Yamaha XS650, back in the day. Lol

As for which bike is ... better looking .... it's the eye of the beholder.... I've have .. 650 Triumph, 650 BSA, Xs650's (3) and even the fabled Triton (750)..parked in my garage... all classic lines. Handsome machines .... I bought a 2020 Interceptor.... for what it wasn't, not so much for what it is. The value was a major factor .... it's a great " 650 " machine .... many manufactures built a 650 for the pass 80 years.... RE got it right. The $$$$'s I saved will fund my summer fun.. for years. 😎

I do all of my own maintenance. The RE has dead simple screw and nut tappet adjusters. Also, the RE upswept exhausts are out of the way for chain slack adjust. Also, no coolant system to look after. 3 year warranty...

hi, yes it was a loose technical comparison , more a bit of fun really. glad you still enjoyed it, its fun to put a bit of humour into the video's. The Enfield was always on an uphill battle with the bonny, but i think it gives a good account of itself. its a bike im loving owning and running around on. theirs still nothing id change if for.

@@theartisanrider472 the newer version is practical, but it lacks the charm of old school version that you and I have, When it comes to power Royal enfield thought about Indian market first and 100kmph to 120 kmph is sort of the sweet spot on Indian highways (motorcycles are not allowed on expressway in India with speed limit of 140kmph and those are Access controlled motorways)

I've had a T100 and hope at some point to get an interceptor or maybe theres a new 650 classic to come? . Triumph was great however servicing was a pain having to get shims( as I do all my own work) was expensive. Hence the simplicity of the Enfield, and lets be serious Triumph are mass produced in Thailand so theres no real Britishness left Royal Enfield really have a better Heritage they've been making bikes for over 100 years consistently you can't say that about Triumph!!

I had tons of hope to buy an interceptor until test rode one and immediately after my whole perception has changed and was like... No way! From quality of parts/materials to fit and finish to design of every part was underwhelming! Then with a heavy heart for extra cost test rode T100 and immediately was like... Yes please! Take my money! Everything was as it should be or better from quality, performance, design & etc

A little bit unfair in one way - the 30 - 50 test; the T100 has a 900cc engine vs a 650cc in the RE - a whole lot more torque and Cu.in to pull away with. Love the bikes and the comparison! Subscribed though :) BTW, I have an R1200RT as well as the Interceptor - haha! The Interceptor became a different beast with the Enfield Precision cans on and the DNA air filter as well. - Try them out!! Even better fuel economy on a longish steady journey! And, my gear changes are butter smooth, still and mine is 2019.

yep, totally fair point. i was slightly limited due to only having Jamie's bike available, but it did give an owners perspective, which meant we could sort of say what we liked without upsetting a dealer. having said that though, i was surprised at how much more refined this water-cooled bonny is than my air-cooled one. i have access to a new t120 so might compare those at some point.

LOL, boy is being robbed over and over… the triumph is better in many details, and worth the 3K extra. To me the best and most real bike is the Interceptor. Triumph makes oversized show-pieces. I’d buy the W800, every time. But for now, I am thinking of caferacer styling a new BSA instead.
