soulkey easily one of the most mentally strong players of all time. came back 0-3 to win 4-3 vs infiltration, one of the greatest terran players in sc2 in one of the most memorable gsls ever. also last asl he was 0-2 down to jyj and came back to win 3-2 and ended up going all the way.

Such a rollercoaster. I am in the pits now. Love watching Mini play, wanted him to win so bad, but, at the same time, I totally saw it coming.

It's the classic build you up in order to let you down. Like housewife in love with her abusive husband, I'm still gonna root for protoss next ASL. I feel like Snow is gonna choke, too. Not walling off in game 4 reeks of egotism or negligence. It's basics and doesn't impede his strategy. I'd love to hear Mini's explanation.

@@utarian7 I think he wanted to bait Soulkey so that he would be focused on attacking Mini rather than on looking for that sneaky cannon rush. But it backfired because Zerg made many more lings than I think Mini bargained for and in the end, he was the one who got distracted and took damage.

Totally reminds me of mini vs larva. Same thing here and there, mini plays so good he makes PvZ look broken only to do a dumb zealot rush (here 2 gate at natural vs larva proxy gate) only to fail miserably. Its just embarrassing, he should have just done 12 nexus 3 more times in a row knowing he could probably win one of them

It was way too cocky to not wall off in game 4. And in game 3, I was scratching my head as to why no corsair. Mini lost ASL16 against soulkey in finals because he was acting like he already won before they even started playing. Overconfidence. Feels like Mini's biggest enemy is himself.

No way. Mid / Late-Game Soulkey is the best Soulkey. It's just good to see he has the confidence to throw 9 Pools at people to spot-check any nonsense coming at him.

@@CentsOfFate64 think about last season vs rush, soulkey lost all the games he went hive, and he won all the games by lair tech or ling flood. Granted, rush was gambling with 2 cc first vs 9 pool, but I mean… I just think soulkey does better with 9 pool at this point. Mini was literally countering his macro builds and folded like paper vs 9 pool

Soulkey's adaptability in these series is excellent, going for 9 pools after the first two games. Similar for his comebacks against JYJ and Rush adapting on the fly. He dominated last season's final with impeccable macro and late game control. Like many of the top zergs he can do it all and sometimes does and should mix it up with all ins and technical builds, but his standard macro play is still his best.

He absolutely dominated game 1 and 2 by playing a bit greedy but standard, then instead of doing a bit greedy but standard game 3 4 and 5 he did absolute trash all in builds for no reason

Spoiler filler: Obviously crazy builds from Mini. Worked like a charm first 2 games, third game wasn't a bad try leading 2-0, 4th game was also not bad but because they are non standard it just seems like they were not fully figured out depending on if Zerg does X or Y. As Nyoken said, if he loops the zealots to the left to pair with the 2 cannons, the third dies. I think he could also have made a better sim city with the cannons and pylon to tuck them behind the minerals so they do better vs the 12 lings or so, they would still hit the hatch from back there...so I think execution being more perfect, game 4 still goes well for Mini. When he fails to kill the zerg third, he is in big trouble. As Gypsy said, they were kind of clown builds that had a decent chance to work, but when you are up 2-0 and lose one, I think you go back to standard play and you have 2 chances to win one more. Of course easy to say that in hindsight, these 'clown builds' make you look like a genius if they work, and make you look dumb when they don't.

Mini is such an accomplished player, amazing micro, macro, multitasking, apm, knowledge of the game, etc. I don't know why he forces all-ins strategies that much. Does he lack confidence? SPOILER Man, watching Protoss this season has been depressing. Aside from Best going berserk and trashing Light and Rush, and Snow with his outrageous game against Speed, Protoss has been so lackluster this tournament. Rain literally didn't practice in the run-up to the RO24. Watching Stork play is just sad. Best did bone-head garbage against Sharp. Mini just did random crap for all 5 games of this series. Thank god we have Snow with his god-tier micro and great game-sense. I really hope he can make it a 7 game series against Soulkey.

@@cowgirlqueen2636 Great point. Playing solid would have put Soulkey under constant pressure every second to make something happen, and then Mini could counter because of the higher likelihood of mistakes. Mini's just mini. One of a kind. Devout gambler, skilled at self-sabotage.

I dont think Mini can win Soulkey in standard games. Just check the last ASL finals. He had to win in early game or mid dame with a build order advantage to defeat Soulkey

I'm really not a hater but tbh there's no player in ASL i like to see losing more than Mini. I just despise his gambling style and his incapability to play a game where he doesn't start with a huge advantage gained either with 12 nexus or cheese. Also games like the last one really convince me that the reason why he systematically refuses any standard strategy is that afterall he's just not that skilled and scared to lose longer games. He wanted Soulkey to go 12 hatch and fail to scout, which didn't happen, but even so, z made a mistake by going hatch in main and took a huge risk building so many lings, turning an advantageous start into an all in. Truth is that a protoss like Rain, or even Bisu, would have read that was an all in, held those lings with zealots micro and won. Mini's micro instead was just so bad. He even fought 9-10 lings with probes instead of pulling to the 2nd, losing them all, which was just not a play you'd expect at this level.

Horrible. Mini could of won the last game. He shouldn't of lost all his probes to kill the lings. If he sends the probes to the nat and just sends like 4 zealots and 2 probes and block the front he could've won.

Mini is the only player I know who would absolutely dominate the first two games and then go on to lose 3-2 in a series. Valiant effort by Mini. PvZ is seriously imbalanced. Protoss literally can't win ASLs because PvZ is seriously in need of a fix. I'd recommend an upgrade to double cannon HP/Half build time (e.g. requiring gateway) or making malestrum cost 50 energy, or making corsair survive 3 scourge hits. Outside of Bisu there really isn't any protoss who can consistently win a PvZ

What was that last game... the decison-making, like, why? The initial decision was weird, but seemed to work out, then to not transfer/move workers made no sense. Disappointing.
