A lot of countries around the world have traditional beatings on birthdays. The only one I'm familiar with is punching but, according to Wikipedia, some other people do some crazy things... :P

we do birthday hits in America. we'll hit you to match your age. for example if someone turns 18 they get hit 18 times. then one extra for good measure LOL but that usually tends to happen when someone is younger. I haven't gotten birthday hits since I was 21 and I was told I was getting too old and it took too long to hit me lmao
