It is always interesting to hear how Japanese speakers try to pronounce English words. The rule of Japanese don't let you combine consonants without vowels between them, with exceptions (some combined sounds are treated as sounds in their own right, like ry, ts, or ny, and n can be freely added, so names like Rin are fine) so it's always interesting to see how Japanese speakers try to break apart English words to make them pronouncable. Like adding a vowel after the d because dress is too hard. Same reason Sports Car gets rendered as supotsu kaa.

はい is pronounce as 'Hai' in Japanese, which is 'Yes' in English. The pronunciation of 'はい' in Japanese and 'hi' in English is somehow similar but different meaning

I really wish Duolingo started with a pronunciation guide when you begin a course. I think it’s very much necessary due to there being sounds in other languages that you’d never make in your own language. For example the Japanese “R” is somewhere between an English “R” and “L” and if you’re not taught this, you’ll tend to just pronounce it like an English “R”. (Don’t even get me started on mandarin.)

The Japanese "R" is actually closest to a "D" in English. The point you have to tap with the tip of your tongue to produce the Japanese R is almost exactly the same as that of the English D. Of course, you have to shape your tongue like when pronouncing an L, and do a tap like when pronouncing an R. So in a sense, it's a fusion between a D, an L, and an R.

@@savejeff15 it's more for like practicing and reviewing imo, it's good if you're being taught a language and using it while ur being taught, because it gives you exercises to help u practice.

I agree English is probably one of the dumbest languages ever to exist
