💬Plot summary:
Fan Xian grew up in a small town by the sea with his grandmother, following a sudden visit of a poison master, his peaceful life quickly morph into one filled with danger and hardship. I think that arrow means that the emperor has long wished to get rid of her since she wouldn't hand out the control of royal treasure， but he just can't find a great excuse to do so. But then this thing happened, he is able to finally shoot his long prepared arrow and kill her with one shot. It's like the emperor unofficially declared a death sentence to her political career. There is no love between the emperor and grand princess as you can easily observe that how bothered the emperor was by her inflammatory against FX during the feast where FX became the god of poetry. And for a woman who craves for power, telling her you not gonna get your power back anymore is beyond torture and that's why she cried.

I think the emperor took a gamble there, if the arrow goes through and killed the princess, it'd be deemed as accidence since no one could hold him accountable. The arrow didn't go through but he did made a statement that she's as good as dead to him.

I think she did love him because when Wan 'er asked her who her mother had chosen (when she and the Princess Royal had a conversation where the Princess Royal urged Wan 'er to stop choosing Fan Xian for his road ahead was going to be filled with danger and hardship), the Princess Royal didn't answer but if you think about it, she stayed in the capital for so long, never married but stayed close.

I think the meaning of that arrow did not explained itself to the viewers,waner asked her mother ,who did she love,she doesn't love her father who else,there is so many unanswered questions in this drama,even even the letter fan Xian mother left for him did not mean much,when the emperor shoot that arrow she looked back with tears in her eyes,for me that tears is tears of unrequited love.

I do agree with your theory. To note the princess royal is not related to the emperor by blood. The sypnosis says the emperor usurped the throne then the princess royal was a royal blood from the former monarchy. I think she hated Fan Xian simply because she knew who he really is.

@@Dawn371 or she hated him at first because he would take the treasury from her control. Later on, she might have started putting clues together but might have suspicions. Remember in the first episode, Chen pingping started thinking there might be a mastermind behind the death of Fan Xian's mom since he was ordered away from the capital and that was when the people in the capital turned against her and killed her.
