This is an exciting year in the jewelry industry because we are starting to see a wave of new trends come in, as opposed to the last 5 years that have been consistent. We are going to do a break down of the engagement ring trends and styles we are expecting to see in 2023. This is perfect for anyone anticipating and manifesting engagement ring shopping this year!

These top 5 engagement ring designs will be solitaire's, maximalist art deco inspired rings, bezels, thick bands and florals. We also included a 6th trend, cluster engagement rings because they are still a popular style but we believe that after 2023 they will start to fade out. We encourage you to use this video as a guide not just for when you are looking for an engagement ring, but your jewelry in general!
We start off with Solitaire cut rings. The most classic yet lovable cut. The beauty of a solitaire cut ring will never go out of style which is why Gen-Z loves it while older generations are still wearing them. It’s a simple, timeless design that ages extremely well. We often find designs that are too trendy lose their charm quickly.
I’m very excited about the rise of maximalism in jewelry specifically. So ready to start designing some crazy pieces! Maximalism is essentially the abundance of everything: mixed patterns, bold colors, and ornate shapes! It does not shy away from combining vintage and modern designs through bigger, bolder, yet sleek art deco influences.
Although I appreciate thin bands and sleek designs, I’m are so ready to adventure into the glamourous, messy, and exciting world of maximalism! With minimalism dominating the market for the past 5-10 years, fresh new maximalist designs are taking the industry by storm.
As a custom jewelry designer, I love Bezel settings! They are a minimal yet imposing, toeing the line between minimalist and maximalist designs. Not only do they provide a lot more security for your stone, but they add mass to it, making it appear larger.
As part of the world finally moving past its obsession with thin and dainty bands, we are starting to see wider bands. Those are perfect for individuals those looking to steer away from the extremely feminine aesthetic. Thicker and bolder jewelry, while inherently a maximalist design, can definitely be minimalist too, just not in the ultra-feminine way we usually see minimalist designs.
We will mostly see thick bands in either a rugged, hammered texture, or simple and completely dazzled. However, thicker bands can also be enhanced and decked out using center stones or many other designs we are used to seeing on thin bands.
Finally, cluster rings are definitely a trend. Is it going to last? Maybe, maybe not. However, they are extremely popular right now. It is the spacing out, and clustering of gemstones that are shaped, sized, or even colored different. Generally, it is the inclusion of a lot of smaller stones rather than a singular large stone, which makes cluster rings marginally cheaper than traditional rings. Although the designs are beautiful, we do recommend sticking to other options because cluster rings are usually asymmetrical, meaning you could likely grow tired of your ring.

I used to work in the jewelry industry for 4 years and beware of clusters! They easily fall out and constantly need to be replaced. They’re a major POA. Bezel or one big solid rock is the way to go, just check your prongs and make sure it’s not snagging

Thank you for mentioning floral designs. I just got an engagement and wedding band for Christmas that has a pear lab alexandrite center stone with pear moissanites side stones/ accenting it to look more floral. You are the first professional jewler/youtuber I've seen mention these elegant feminine rings. They are my favorites.

Hi Kaylin, Yes I find it surprising that no one mentions it because we do allot of floral designs across various styles :)

I dont like toi et moi, but I like the symbolism of putting two different stones together. And then when the family grows, add more stones accordingly. Then it can be a toi, moi, elle, lui, eux ring.

A solitaire is the ONE for me. Or, three across RBCs Either one can be added on to as styles change. I don't have either. 32 years in--hoping for the 3 across.

I really don’t like toi et moi because of the lack of symmetry. I know people love them and that’s fine, but I have a feeling the asymmetry & the incredible trendiness of them is going to make for unhappy brides in a few years. The one exception is more of a bypass or Victorian style “column” with two stones of the same size & cut style. These will stand the test of time better than totally disparate stones stuck together.

I picked out a one- of-a- kind antique ring (art decostyle)and had it customized with a bezel for the large stone. I think it will really be unique. It has diamonds on the band, round and baguette. I just didn't want the halo, pave, or thin band trendy looks.

The Halo still sells very well to even the very young customers, mainly because it has established itself as solidly classic as the solitaire (including bezel, pavé band, etc.) and three - stone. The other trendy styles are just too gimmicky, "flash in the pan" and not really what most people would want as their "forever rings." Also, even "Halo" itself is just as diverse as Solitaire. There are amazingly designed Halo settings that are Art Deco, Art Nouveau, etc., just as there are poorly designed ones that are inelegant.

I agree with you 100%, I see Halos on Generation Z over here on the East Coast all the time, they are no way disappearing that's for sure.

Confusing halos are gone but thicker banda are IN. I thought thinner bands and no halos are simpler?

Halos are nowhere near being gone I don't know what she's talking about there. I see them on young girls and woman of all ages pretty often. And yes the thin thin bands are on their way out and the thicker bands are coming back. At least over here on the East Coast Philly to New York that I have seen, as I frequent both cities quite often.

I have to disagree about Halos going out and that the generation Z is not buying them because they don't like them. I'm on the east coast and I see Generation Z with halo engagement rings quite often actually. And the jewelry stores over here from Philly and New York as I frequent both cities have a lot of halos in those glass cabinets. Halos have become a classic and I just don't see them on their way out so I think they're here to stay.
