Karen Ehman talks about reaching others through acts of kindness and service. She shared how effective it is to love those who are hard to love, even atheists and how to be "family" to those who are lonely - widows and orphans - and to care for the sick. With personal stories, advice, and wisdom, as well as biblical inspiration, Karen encourages us to step out of our comfort zone to bless others.

My mom was similar:) I try and do this too and feel it is one of my purposes. It is very rewarding. This week I remembered a lady in a group I'm in told me, " If you ever don't hear from me for more than a day come looking for me." So when she didn't call me back for 2 days I went looking to check on her and found her stumbling in the front yard and arguing with her house mates. I told her she didn't look well and please come with me. After some time I talked her into ER because she was delirious. I stayed with her for 3 more days. She wouldn't always listen to wise counsel however. She denied care from ER. She wouldn't listen to her counselor. Her doctor also agreed she needed be in hospital but she wouldn't go. Her biggest fear was leaving her dog. I called a friend and she got on that but after intervening because she had been suicidal and was fighting to live, she was leery of help, tho appreciative. I got her meds regulated by the doctor because they were clearly not working, I did her laundry and ran her errands that week to get her stable. She had wanted to get out of this situation for months and I finally had time to help (kids at camp) so we drove around to apartments and looked at campers. Then after parking her somewhere for the night when the hospital wouldn't keep her against her wishes (she had been at a hotel or my house for days but her time was up and had to face things). She went back to the abusive situation. She called the sheriff on me because I had her meds because the dr asked me and she consented to having me administer them. The abuser drove her to get them and I begged the police to take them to the hospital and have them administer them and told them she had been suicidal and the doctor's wishes and all. And they made me give her the meds and she drove off with the abuser. It was heart wrenching. I called the doc and the therapist. Police told me to call adult protective services but in our county they're only open on M-F. So even if you would have gone over who knows? But I was obedient to the promoting this time. I have had prompts that I ignored too tho. It is hard to live with I know. But you move forward, hence, checking on my friend. This of course makes me never want to do it again after having 2 police in the front yard. What will the neighbors and landlord think? But helping can get messy. This isn't the first time just recent. But this was who God told me to check on and I had a lot to do as we need to pack to move. He told me later that I ministered to Him (whenever you do this unto the least of thsse... ) God told me the moving/packing can wait. My bible study can wait. The things i wanted to get to. Pray for me today as I call adult protective services and pray for her mind to clear. There is also a lot of spiritual warfare. Bless you for your heart and Focus for spreading the light!

When my grandpa passed away I was in Bible collage at the time and my dorm mom just hugged me and cried with me. That was definitely one of the most meaningful and memorable moment in my life! I to this day appreciate that and her!
