14 jaar was ik toen..moest altijd op dat tijdstip slapen..zag nog 2-0 worden.. Met zenuwen wakker worden..en dan horen dat het 2-2 Is geindigd.. Wat een tijden...❤

Geweldig zeg, kwam hier heel toevallig terecht! Goed beeld, mooi commentaar van Rinus Michels (kaskonje ipv Gascoigne). Ook heel wat (toekomstig) wereldsterren staan er op het veld.

I know it hurts :-) We missed the 2002 WC although we had some great players (Bergkamp, Kluivert, De Boer, Van der Sar, Van Nistelrooij, Davids, Seedorf, Overmars, Stam etc)... And in USA '94 we had our share of heartache when we lost to Brazil in the QF...

If that penalty was given for the fault on Van Hooydonk in the match against Brazil, things would've been different. Some poor referee dicisions cost us a lot at these great tournements. U can see that the big country's get away with a lot more at these tournements.

Muhaha dat commentaar van Michels @ 4:02 noemt hij Gascoigne "Kaskonje" @ 6:02 Veel spelers zijn nerveus voor het nemen van penalties In Michels' woorden: "Meestal, onder die omstandigheden... is de spanning dan dermate groot in relatie tot de verantwoordelijkheid van dat moment ....dat de meeste hem dus niet meer willen nemen. Die kommen d'r niet mee klaar. Die zien dat al voor zich, of die voelen dat. Dat is geen kwestie van voor zich zien." @ 4:00 beste elleboogstoot ooit. Spot on!

You have to respect Gascoigne there: he takes it like an absolute pro. Of course he had his own fair share in these things but in nowadays’ football the victim would have rolled from one side to the other side of the field crying like a little baby.

Rinus Michels had er wel verstand van hoor. Je merkt gewoon dat de beste man een voetbalproffesor was. Moge hij in vrede rusten. Doet mij een beetje denken aan Louis van Gaal. Ook zo een voetbalproffesor.

Hey totally agree that the rules haven't changed. But every now and then, Fifa say: from now on we really want to root out this or that. So pay extra attention to it, referees. Somewhere in the mid-90's this was said about bringing down a player clean through. Same thing was done later for intentionally falling to the ground, or asking the referee to book another player. They tend to do this around big tournaments.

Toen er nog gevoetbald kon worden en niet alles in de gaten werd gehouden met tientallen camera's. Het maakte het voetbal er een stuk leuker op.

I'd forgotten about that appalling elbow on Gascoigne. Should have been an instant red card. Would have changed the game, and England would have qualified for WC 1994. Oh well. They were a crap team anyway. Much better by 1996, when under Terry Venables they crucified the Netherlands 4-1.

In 1996 The Netherlands were a crap team too with racial tensions and other issues in the Dutch team, so that Euro 1996 tournament was meant to be a failure.

Back in those days committing a foul on a player clean through on goal was not required to be sanctioned with a red card. Just some trivia to digest. Football was different in those days, and Gascoigne was no angel himself.

That Dutch bloke should have been sent off and Gaoled for the asault on Gazza. Paul was our best player so Holand took him out. That's not football. I'm still sad about it.

Absolutely right. Nearly as bad as when Basil Boli nutted Stuart Pearce off the ball. UEFA & FIFA turned the game into a wimps sport banning hard fouls but snide stuff like this went unpunished. Total cowards. But I love the Dutch and that Bergkamp goal was just magnificent.

Gareth Priest Jan Wouters was the one who knocked out Gascoigne. Yes, that was a red card, but the ref was blind. Jan Wouters gave the assist to Bergkamp too. As well as the assist to Van Basten in 1988 against the Germans, semi finals. Good old Jan Wouters hahahahaaa

Blijkbaar niet, Van der Sar was net pas de eerste doelman bij Ajax geworden en De Goeij was al jaren de nummer 1 van Feyenoord.

One of the worst refereed England sides you mean. In the both qualifier games they were better or equal and the Dutch should have sent one off... When Wouters would 've been sent off England would have thrashed the Dutch at Wembley. In Rotterdam England got more chances in the first half , Koeman should have received red , taking one down, and 4 minutes later he scored the 1-0 ! Had they won these games they would have played in the USA and not Holland.
