Lost twice to Belgium, lost to Croatia in the semis, lost to Italy, lost to France. The sad fact is our attacking players look good for their clubs because the creative brains of the side is usually foreign. Saka has Odegaard, Foden has Rodri, Bellingham has the whole Real Madrid side. It was the same way back when…Lampard had Makelele, Gerrard had Alonso. Unfortunately we don’t create these sort of players. Maddison is one but Southgate doesn’t like him. Wharton looks promising but no doubt Gareth will make him terrified of wanting the ball.

These two hugging the lines mean we are light in the mid ! Somebody should be taking charge and changing things when they aren’t working . Both Maguire and Henderson had their limitations but they could both read a game and shout instructions . Rice , Bellingham , Kane all seem head down working on their own game . I honestly don't understand where England fans get this idea that they should be winning tournaments. They've only ever won one, and that was hosted by them, and they got a bit of help along the way. They've only ever been in two finals, both of which were held at Wembley. They're perennial Quarter Finalists, with the occasional Semi Final thrown in for good measure. What is wrong in that? You can hope that you might improve, and take that next step, but to expect it, year after year, when there's been no sign of any drastic improvement? I've been watching football for around 45 years. The first major tournament i can remember clearly, was Spain 82, and i've seen England play better than they have in these 3 group games, a handful of times. Those performances are the exception, the rule is what we saw in these 3 group games. That's the harsh reality of it. I've always said that England are the most consistent national side in World football. They're never brilliant, they're never rubbish, they just trot along at a consistently good level. Where the English fool themselves, is when they play an elite team who is either on the slide, or at their lowest, and they win. They suddenly think they're a great team, when in reality, they've played a great nation at the right time, as far as England are concerned. Then, that nation starts rebuilding, they come back to being serious contenders, England lose to them, and the inquest begins..."we beat them 2 years ago convincingly. What's happened to us? We've clearly gone backwards...". No. England have remained consistent, the team you beat 2 years ago has rebuilt and come back strong. Games against the Italians, and Germany spring to mind immediately. They lose to Italy in the Final in 2021, and it's doom and gloom, they beat an Italy in the midst of a rebuild in the Nations League, and it's all glory. England will fall before the Semi Final this year. They might even fall in the round of 16. That's the expected. It's not failure when they do so. It's where they're at. In a World Cup, there's always 6, 7, maybe 8 teams who are better than England, regardless of who those teams are. In the Euros, there's always 4, or 5 teams who are better. Then you have another 5, or 6 who are at the same level as them. Games against those teams can go either way, games against that 4, or 5, can occasionally go England's way, but mostly go in favour of the better team.

These pundits are hitting every nerve except how average Foden and Kane have been in 3 games. Yet, none of them will say they need to be dropped the next game.
