We would be nothing without each other, we are a huge part of each others national identity and history and we will not stand idly by while terrorists attack. It was the same after 9/11 with the American National anthem playing in London and Paris and all around the world!

@@Morgsy- I wasn’t talking about the content of the video. The cringey comment above tries to make out that there’s a deeper connection between the UK and France that brings us closer together. I’m quite cynically saying that this sort of mumbo jumbo is nonsense and it all boils down to geopolitics, not some nonsensical semi-devine sense of camaraderie.

Over my about to be 26 years if life, I have seen countless things. From the 9/11 attacks, to the Paris bombings, and many other events, I have stood and watched those countries with sadness. I still remember that Friday. I did not have the luck of being there, but I was watching the video in German. I stood up, right hand over my heart, and too the best of my ability, sang La Marseille. To my French brothers, though our history is bitter, our future is sweet.

The solidarity that we showed to the French back then makes me proud to be British. What makes me rather less proud to be British is the fact that if Charlie Hebdo was a British publication based in London then those journalists would not have been murdered, they would have been arrested. The Charlie Hebdo cartoons are illegal in this country as the UK is not a free country, unlike France.

Disgusting that the 130 innocent victims of the Paris attacks get a token minute of silence on a single occasion, yet a violent career criminal, unlawfully killed in the USA gets 1 minutes silence every time a football match is played in England. That is up to 36 minutes every single week and it has been going on for months now.

@@mikesaunders4775 A lot of people at least learned a little bit of french at school and have been exposed to enough french words that people can probably work out the pronunciation. Plus by hearing the french sing it you can probably work it out by ear, even sub consciously.

@@silverfreckledsky618 I am one of those that learned 'un petit peur' at school, which of course is most people, the point however is that few people acquire, let alone retain a sufficient knowledge to be able to converse with a French-speaking native. Do you for example, know the words of the Marseillaise?, a long and complex historical ballad describing the bloodthirsty aftermath of an intervention by a relief column of forces sent out from Marseille,. My feeling is that the England fans did as I would have, and hummed along to a rousing and very well known piece of music at a time of reflection and sadness.
@silverfreckledsky618
@silverfreckledsky618 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikesaunders4775 funnily enough, I did a whole term on Marseille and it’s deep and brutal meaning rooted in blood shed and propaganda to a point t. I have also experienced enough French through my life that I have a pretty good understanding of the pronunciation. Plus because there are people who are French natives singing the song is as humans can copy what they are doing as i said before subconsciously. Yes I don’t disagree that people didn’t hum but after a few words you can probably give the words ago given that they were on the screen. Furthermore I never said that they had to know conversational french but just enough understanding to replicate the pronunciation
