It's a brilliant strategy from Southgate. We had an easy group and he used that wisely. Don't risk injury and don't exhaust the team. It's tough to watch, but it works. Everyone thinks England are weak, and that's a good thing as when they play a major side they go in thinking England will be easy to beat. It's a classic Trojan horse. We can turn it on very quickly and shock the other team.

He doesn't have a system, he's just throwing the 10 best outfield players on and then trying to make it work even if they play out of position and are no longer effective. There is an expected level of performance - you don't expect to clap if Real Madrid or Man City to reach the semi- finals of the Champions League - given their squad value, that is literally an expectation. England's squad value is ridiculous. He's not overachieving. If Real Madrid's manager doesn't win ENOUGH titles, he gets sacked. Same at Manchester United and most other big clubs.
